New Reacher Character Properly Explains Why He Didn’t Stay With Roscoe In Season 1

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Reacher season 2.

A new character introduced in Reacher season 2 has proven why the titular character did not stay in Margrave with Roscoe after season 1’s ending. In fact, Reacher season 2 provides several reasons as to why the events of season 1 are far removed from the Amazon Prime show’s sophomore season. For one, Reacher season 2’s time jump of almost three years means Reacher has undergone several adventures between Margrave and his return in season 2, therefore making the return of characters like Roscoe and Finlay incredibly unlikely.

In Reacher season 1, the characters of Finlay and Roscoe aided Reacher in the investigation into his brother’s murder. During this time, Roscoe and Reacher became very close before the latter left the former at the end of the season despite them having feelings for one another. This led many to question if Roscoe would return for Reacher season 2’s episodes. That said, the aforementioned time jump and one of the characters in Reacher season 2’s special investigations unit provide adequate reasoning for Roscoe’s absence, while also adding more context to the reason why Jack decided not to stay in Margrave.

Prime Video’s Reacher is coming back for a third season, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about the upcoming episodes.

Reacher & Dixon Have A Way Stronger Bond Compared To Reacher & Roscoe

Reacher and Dixon simply have more history than he and Roscoe did.

As proven in Reacher season 2’s first three episodes, the character of Dixon is one reason as to why Reacher did not stay with Roscoe. Dixon is one of the characters who was part of Reacher’s special investigations unit in the army, meaning the two worked together for a very long time. According to characters like Neagley and O’Donnell who were also part of the group, it was evident to everyone that Reacher and Dixon had a strong, romantic bond together. While it was not acted upon until the events of Reacher season 2, their strong bond is clear to see.

Concerning Reacher and Roscoe, it is the sad truth that the two did not have this type of connection. While they had incredible chemistry with one another during their Margrave investigation, Reacher and Roscoe simply do not have the same depth of bond as Reacher and Dixon. The latter couple have a much longer history together, something that cannot be said for Roscoe.

Reacher’s Dixon Romance Explains Why He Didn’t Stay With Roscoe

Reacher’s past feelings for Dixon may have played a part in his decision to leave Margrave in season 1.

As alluded to, Reacher season 2 has confirmed a romance between the titular character and Dixon. The two had a mutual attraction to each other during their army days, yet Reacher season 2, episode 2 saw the characters finally give in to their bond and become a couple of sorts. As explored by Neagley’s hints towards Reacher and Dixon, it is clear they have both had these feelings for a very long time.

This romance could then retroactively be attributed to why Reacher did not stay with Roscoe. As the aforementioned stronger bond between Reacher and Dixon is evident, it could have been the case that Reacher was thinking about his feelings for Dixon when deciding whether to stay with Roscoe or not. While Reacher has never settled down in one place was used as the explanation for his leaving Margrave, it could also be attributed to his hidden feelings for Dixon that are now being explored in Reacher season 2.

Will Reacher & Dixon Stay Together After Season 2?

Lee Child’s books seem to imply that Reacher and Dixon’s relationship will be limited to one season.

Given the precedent set for Reacher’s love interests in season 1, the burning question is whether Reacher and Dixon will stay together after season 2. Reacher obviously left Roscoe, meaning it is a logical question to ask whether he will settle down with Dixon after what has been established about Reacher’s wandering nature. Despite their stronger connection, it is unlikely Reacher and Dixon will stay together after season 2. The reason for this comes from Lee Child’s book series, which Reacher has shown incredible fidelity to in its first two seasons.

Aside from Bad Luck and Trouble, the book on which Reacher season 2 is based, Dixon only appears in one other book. The other book is titled The Affair and takes place during Reacher’s army days as part of the special investigations unit. As such, it is unlikely this book will ever be adapted and therefore equally unlikely that Dixon will appear in future Reacher seasons. The only way in which Dixon could return was if Amazon Prime uncharacteristically changed major aspects of Child’s stories, and, given that Reacher has been incredibly faithful thus far, it is hard to imagine Reacher and Dixon’s relationship continuing beyond season 1.

New episodes of Reacher release every Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
