New Pokémon Snap May Bring Back Original Game’s Protagonist Todd Snap

Upcoming Nintendo Switch game New Pokémon Snap, the sequel to 1999’s Pokémon Snap, will reportedly bring back the original game’s protagonist and Pokémon anime character Todd Snap, as revealed during today’s Pokémon Presents trailer. As a unique sub-series of the ever-popular Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Snap is an on-rails puzzle adventure where players take photographs of the franchise’s various mystical creatures. Various different items and mechanics can be used to manipulate the Pokémon in order to get more clear or exciting shots. As New Pokémon Snap nears its April 30 release date on Nintendo Switch, more information continues to be revealed about the game. Last month, the game’s eShop listing revealed that it will feature some form of online play and cloud saves. While online mechanics have not yet been confirmed, it’s not entirely impossible that New Pokémon Snap could allow multiple players to work together to photograph cute and illusive Pokémon. Even more recently, an update to the game’s website revealed some information about Pokémon behavior and the game’s scoring system. Just like the original game, New Pokémon Snap will score players’ pictures based on the creature’s pose, their size in the frame and which direction they are facing in the photo.Related: New Pokémon Snap Has Online Play, Official Nintendo Listing ConfirmsNow a new trailer for New Pokémon Snap, released on The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel, has revealed that the first game’s protagonist will return in the upcoming sequel. However, his shaggy brown hair is a dead giveaway, and he can be seen wearing a bracelet on his left wrist which pays tribute to his iconic shirt’s color scheme.[EMBED_YT]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fdKOUa1Re0[/EMBED_YT][EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/tahk0/status/1365343524049195009[/EMBED_TWITTER]Alongside New Pokémon Snap, many other new Pokémon games have just been announced at the latest Pokémon Presents showcase. Remakes of Generation 4 games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were announced, with the updated releases dubbed Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. These remakes of the 2006 classics are being handled by Junichi Masuda, the director of the original releases, to ensure that they remain faithful to the original vision for the games. Also announced at the Pokémon Presents showcase is Pokémon Legends: Arceus, an open-world installment in the series that will allow players to explore an ancient version of the Sinnoh region. The open-world title will retain the series’ traditional turn-based combat, and the plot will see the player forming the region’s very first Pokédex.A sequel to Pokémon Snap has long been awaited by fans of the original rail-based picture shooter. The game is completely different from other Pokémon releases in terms of gameplay, but still retains the essence of what makes the franchise so amazing. Bringing Todd Snap back for New Pokémon Snap seems like a no-brainer, but it is nice to see possible confirmation that the original Pokémon photographer has not been forgotten.Next: Every Pokémon Confirmed For New Pokémon Snap (So Far)New Pokémon Snap will be available on Nintendo Switch on April 30.Source: The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel, TAHK0/Twitter
