New Peanuts Movie Announced, Story Details Tease Snoopy & Charlie Brown’s First Feature Since 2015

A new Peanuts movie is announced, with some story details teased. Created by Charles Schulz, Peanuts originated as a comic strip in 1950, introducing now-iconic characters such as Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Woodstock, and Pigpen. The Peanuts gang was later moved to animation with the classic special A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965, which was followed up by It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown in 1966 and later A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving in 1973.

Now, Apple TV+ announces a new Peanuts movie. The Peanuts movie will be a CGI-animated film directed by Steve Martino. The Peanuts movie will follow the story of a grand adventure of Charlie Brown and Snoopy through the Big City. Peanuts does not yet have a release date but will start production in 2024.

What To Expect From This Peanuts Movie

New Peanuts Movie Announced, Story Details Tease Snoopy & Charlie Brown’s First Feature Since 2015

This Peanuts film is the first movie adaptation of the comic since 2015’s The Peanuts Movie. Like this film, The Peanuts Movie also rendered the classic comic strip characters in CGI. The Peanuts Movie received positive reception upon its release, garnering an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Martino helmed The Peanuts Movie as well, which is a good sign for the success of this newest Peanuts film. Joining Martino on the creative team includes producer Bonnie Arnold, and screenwriters Karey Kilpatrick, Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, and Cornelius Uliano. The latter three also co-write The Peanuts Movie. Kilpatrick is also a well-accomplished animated screenwriter, writing projects such as Chicken Run and Over the Hedge.

With production starting next year, this newest Peanuts movie will be released at least a decade after The Peanuts Movie. This is a good release window for the newest Peanuts film, as it can bring the classic characters to a new generation. With this opportunity, Martino in the Peanuts team has the chance to reinvent and reimagine the characters, and hope that it will succeed as much as it did in 2015’s The Peanuts Movie.
