New Overwatch Digital Comic Series Coming From Dark Horse

The first issue of an awesome tie-in to an action-packed video game is now available to read with the release of an all-new Overwatch digital comic series from Dark Horse Comics! Stemming from the hit video game, Overwatch: New Blood takes place right after the events of the “Reunion” cinematic and follows the cyber-tech cowboy leading up to the highly anticipated sequel game Overwatch 2. Now, fans can get their fix in the world of Overwatch with a new series brought to life by an all-star creative team.

Overwatch: New Blood is published in partnership between Dark Horse Comics and Blizzard Entertainment. The writer behind the new series is Ray Fawkes who is the mastermind behind such books as Black Hammer ‘45 and Constantine. The comic is illustrated by Irene Koh who previously brought to life The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Casey and April with colors by Suzanne Geary and Mariel Rodriguez. The letterer of the series, Deron Bennet, is no stranger to the world of Overwatch, previously working on Overwatch: Tracer– London Calling as well as on DC Comics’ Batgirl.

The Overwatch: New Blood five-issue series follows familiar character Cole Cassidy on a brand new adventure in which he is on a mission to find new heroes for his new Overwatch team. Years after Overwatch disbanded, the world has fallen into chaos with self-interested people in power taking advantage of the most vulnerable. In the first issue, Cole Cassidy is working as a mercenary until he is called upon by an old friend and given a push to relaunch Overwatch and revamp it to make it his own and fight for those who can’t defend themselves. The story is action-packed and filled with callbacks to the original game. Plus, Overwatch fans have other ways to experience the continuation of the series outside of the comic world.

The launch of Overwatch: New Blood coincides with an all-new Overwatch in-game event, “Cassidy’s New Blood Challenge”. The challenge seemingly takes Cassidy on a similar mission to gather new heroes for Overwatch, with fans able to control every step the hero takes along the way. While the new in-game event is a fun treat for fans, it is no substitute for the mind-blowing artwork and creative storytelling found in the digital comic series, but still an awesome addition.

Overwatch: New Blood takes fans of the video game and throws them into the comic-style narrative without losing any amount of the thrilling story details in the process. From the futuristic western action Overwatch fans fell in love with from the original game to the loyal and accurate character depiction from Cole Cassidy himself, the new series has everything fans could want from an Overwatch continuation. The first issue of the new Overwatch digital comic series from Dark Horse Comics is available now on multiple platforms including Dark Horse Digital and ComiXology with more issues on the way!
