New MCU Daredevil Details Tease A Major Change For Kingpin

New story details for Daredevil: Born Again tease a very different version of Kingpin for the Marvel Cinematic Universe series. Returning to lead Daredevil: Born Again‘s cast are Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. The upcoming MCU series will see the two characters meet again for the first time since season 3 of Netflix’s Daredevil, and it appears that both characters will be on a very different path from the one they were on the show, which connects to a Kingpin rumor.

According to details from the US Copyright Office, Daredevil: Born Again‘s story will see Daredevil and Kingpin in a new phase of their lives. A synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again‘s first episode reads: “Marvel Studios presents “Daredevil” in which longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them.” The copyright filing is not confirmed by Marvel and could be subject to change; however, the revealed details do line up with rumors about the show’s plot.

What Daredevil: Born Again’s First Synopsis Means

New MCU Daredevil Details Tease A Major Change For Kingpin

Daredevil: Born Again‘s synopsis is interesting, as it makes it seem like Cox’s Matt Murdock has decided to serve solely as a lawyer, leaving Daredevil behind, while D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk “goes straight” to help the people of New York. The synopsis connects with Daredevil: Born Again‘s rumored Mayor Fisk story. One of the longest-running rumors surrounding the project is that Kingpin will become New York City’s Mayor, making life hell for the vigilantes that operate in the Big Apple.

While Matt leaving Daredevil behind after seemingly being at ease with his alter ego in Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is surprising, the MCU TV show making Fisk seemingly leave villainy to serve as New York City’s Mayor is even more shocking. As the Daredevil: Born Again synopsis states that “their pasts catch up to them,” the rumor that Kingpin uses his political influence to hunt New York’s vigilantes gains strength. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is confirmed for the series, meaning at least one vigilante other than Daredevil will be affected by whatever Kingpin’s true plan is.

Daredevil: Born Again rumors have teased the potential return of Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter in the MCU series. Given Bernthal’s role as Frank Castle and Kingpin rumored to be after all of New York’s vigilantes, it would make sense for other characters from Netflix’s The Defenders Saga to appear, as well as MCU street-level characters such as Echo, Hawkeye, and Kate Bishop. With no official word regarding Daredevil: Born Again‘s plot from Marvel and with the series likely being delayed due to filming having been paused by the Hollywood strikes, MCU fans will need to wait longer to see how Kingpin’s new role plays out in Daredevil: Born Again.
