New Look At Last Days of Black Hammer (Exclusive)

The Last Days of Black Hammer is here as the newest chapter of the Black Hammer series by Jeff Lemire tells the untold story of the very first hero to dawn the mantle. In an exclusive preview of the latest chapter of the original graphic novel from Lemire, Stefano Simone, and Nate Piekos, readers get a closer look at the comic as we can share four pages from the ongoing story.

Canadian comic book writer and artist Jeff Lemire is known for his critically acclaimed stories including his work on Moon Knight for Marvel Comics, Sweet Tooth for Vertigo/DC Comicsand Sentient for TKO Comics. Lemire’s most expansive work is Black Hammer from Dark Horse Comics, which he co-created with Dean Ormston. The series draws inspiration from the Silver and Golden Age of comics, as the original series followed six superheroes who became trapped on Black Hammer farm. The series has had numerous spinoffs, including stories starring Sherlock Frankenstein, Colonel Weird, and Barbalien.

Jeff Lemire, Stegano Simone, and Nate Piekos’ The Last Days of Black Hammer was announced to be part of Lemire’s Substack offerings in late January. The new 110-page graphic novel follows Joe Weber, the original Black Hammer, while also showcasing Black Hammer heroes including Abraham Slam, Golden Gail, and Barbalien. The prequel series is dropping a handful of pages at a time and we’ve got a look at the next installment of the Black Hammer series. The Last Days of Black Hammer original graphic novel will be released on Jeff Lemire’s Substack page, where the author will release a handful of other comics, including the new series Fishflies – which is available to paid Substack subscribers. The newest prequel graphic novel from Lemire, Simone, and Piekos, which has already released four chapters, will be available to read to subscribers of Lemire’s Tales From the Farm newsletter.

For fans of Black Hammer, seeing the series continue on the Substack newsletter platform is an exciting way to get new stories. However, for fans who are collecting the series in physical editions, Dark Horse Comics will publish The Last Days of Black Hammer in a collection after the series concludes on Substack. The Last Days of Black Hammer chapters from Jeff Lemire, Stegano Simone, and Nate Piekos’ are available to read here.
