New Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes Posters Reveal An Old Panem

The posters from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes reveal a retro look at an older version of Panem. Based on the Hunger Games prequel by Suzanne Collins, Songbirds and Snakes steps away from Katniss and takes a look at the life of Coriolanus Snow, who will someday lead the Capitol and all of Panem. The prequel features a new cast of characters and a similar yet remarkably changed setting.

With the November 17 release date quickly approaching, Collider revealed a series of posters featuring many members of the Songbirds and Snakes cast. Check them out below:

The posters are all made in a retro style and include Snow, Lucy Grey Baird, Lucky Flickerman, Dean Highbottom, and Dr. Gaul. Each poster is colored red, white, and blue and features the words “Hunger for Control” over the characters. They are all also looking to the upper left, presenting a distinguished look.

Panem Will Be Different In Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes

New Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes Posters Reveal An Old Panem

The Hunger Games exist because of a war between the Capitol and the Districts. In an effort to punish the Districts and break any hope of solidarity and rebellion, the Capitol elected to force each District to sacrifice two of their children every year. By the events of Songbirds and Snakes, the Games themselves are wildly different from what they will eventually become, as the entertainment elements of the Games do not yet exist.

Taking place six decades before the first Hunger Games movie, Songbirds and Snakes presents a very different version of Panem. It takes place early in the history of the franchise and focuses on the 10th Hunger Games. Because it is set only a decade after the Panem war, the Capitol is still in ruins by the time Snow first begins to study the Games. Even wealthy families are suffering in the war’s aftermath.

The runtime of Songbirds and Snakes is especially long. With 156 minutes and 59 seconds, there will be ample time to explore the ruins of the Capitol and the rebuilding efforts. There will also be an opportunity to emphasize the squalor in the Districts and the effects of the still-recent war. While The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is about the Capitol, the Districts will still play a massive role.
