New Horizon Zero Dawn 2 Velociraptor-Like Machine Possibly Revealed

A new tie-in comic for Horizon: Zero Dawn shows off a robot dinosaur creature that might make its formal debut in the unannounced Horizon: Zero Dawn 2. To a generation of old-school PlayStation fans, Guerilla Games is best known for its work on the Killzone series. Following the conclusion of the Killzone story, the team set out to create a new IP for Sony’s home console, resulting in the 2017 release of Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Horizon: Zero Dawn amazed audiences with its immersive open world and visceral combat. Set in a unique version of the post-apocalypse, Horizon: Zero Dawn put players in the role of Aloy, a warrior in a small society of hunter-gatherers. Instead of natural organic wildlife, the world of Horizon is populated by robot wildlife, which can be fought and scavenged for spare parts. With its provocative setting, engaging combat, and enticing storyline, Horizon: Zero Dawn became one of 2017’s biggest hits, and one of the PlayStation 4’s most successful exclusives. After three years, a sequel has yet to be officially announced, but rumors have all but confirmed the existence of Horizon: Zero Dawn 2, likely as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

As reported by Twisted Voxel, a new comic book published by Titan Comics is set after the events of Horizon: Zero Dawn, featuring a brand new robot creature that might eventually appear in Horizon: Zero Dawn 2. The robot is clearly inspired by Hollywood’s well-known interpretation of Velociraptors, as seen in films like Jurassic Park, only it is much bigger.

There was no shortage of enemy types in Horizon: Zero Dawn, so the appearance of a brand new robot in this comic could be sowing the seeds for the monster to make its proper debut in the still-unannounced sequel. If Guerilla is sharing ideas with Titan Comics, maybe the printed adventures of Aloy will set the stage for whatever avenues the sequel might explore.

At this point, the existence of Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 is something of an open secret. The very existence of the sequel comic makes it clear Horizon is not a one-and-done franchise. The next-gen previews are finally starting to heat up thanks to Geoff Keighley’s much-hyped Summer Game Fest, so it’s only a matter of time before Sony finally pulls back the curtain on the PlayStation 5 and its high-profile exclusive titles, and Horizon: Zero Dawn seems poised to be one of them.
