New Gotham Knights Official Art Shows Batman’s Legacy Lives On

Gotham Knights gives a powerful nod to Batman in its new official key art, which will likely be used in marketing and possibly the cover of the game, ahead of DC Fandome. Following the death of Batman, the likes of Batgirl, Red Hood, Robin, and Nightwing rise up to take up his mantle and protect Gotham from its villains – namely the mysterious Court of Owls. This new art highlights who the heroes are and Batman’s symbolic, non-playable role in the story.

After months of relative silence, Gotham Knights will appear at DC Fandome on October 16. It and Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will show off new content at the event, potentially revealing gameplay for the latter. WB Montreal debuted Gotham Knights at last year’s DC Fandome with an extended gameplay demo, so it’s likely even more will be at this event and that a firmer 2022 release date could be set. The game is expected to be a true standalone and is not connected to the Batman: Arkham games, despite the similarities between the ending of Arkham Knight and Batman’s death in Gotham Knights.

DC has debuted the official key art for Gotham Knight, showing the heroes patrolling the streets of Gotham City together with Batman’s watchful reflection in a puddle beneath them. Although all four protagonists are shown, the game can only be played solo or in two-player co-op. Originally intended to release this year, Gotham Knights was delayed to 2022 to give WB Montreal the time it needs to finish the product. Whether or not the developer is expanding the co-op player count with this delay remains to be seen, but it’s seems highly possible another look at the co-op action will be shown at DC Fandome next month.

Although a general idea of what the game is about has been given, there are still a lot of unknowns about Gotham Knights. There’s so far only been a reveal trailer and a gameplay demo shown after its reveal, and  DC and WB Montreal have since been maintained radio silence on the game. It’s believed that Penguin will appear in Gotham Knights after a recent casting leak, but – other than that – very few Batman villains have been confirmed to appear so far. It seems probable that the next trailer will give fans a better rundown of the story and which familiar faces can be expected.

As of right now, the only villains that have been shown off in the game are Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls. Whether or not Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker, will appear in Gotham Knights is not a sure thing right now, but it’s hard to imagine he doesn’t make a cameo appearance. Regardless, it certainly seems like the marketing for Gotham Knights is finally starting to kick into gear.

Gotham Knights will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2022.
