New Godzilla X Kong Location Makes The Monsterverse’s Missing Lion Titan Possible

New Godzilla X Kong Location Makes The Monsterverse’s Missing Lion Titan Possible

Showcased in footage from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, a new location makes the Monsterverse’s missing lion Titan possible for the upcoming film. Thanks to hints from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it’s understood that Legendary’s Monsterverse is chock-full of Titans that viewers have yet to even lay eyes on yet. For now, all that’s known about them stems from clues in the 2019 film, its novelization, and Monsterverse tie-in material.

At least some of the Titans lurking on the planet are set to emerge when Godzilla and Kong make their long-awaited big-screen returns. The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire trailer confirms a new threat in the form of the Monsterverse’s Skar King will menace the Monsterverse. Based on merchandise associated with the film, another new Monsterverse Titan will be on hand as well, along with Godzilla vs. Kong’s Titanus Doug. Potentially, they could be among a handful of Titans crossing paths with Godzilla and Kong when they embark on their next adventure.

Godzilla X Kong Is Visiting Sekhmet’s Monsterverse Home

New Godzilla X Kong Location Makes The Monsterverse’s Missing Lion Titan Possible

The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire trailer confirms the film will visit Egypt, the home of a confirmed but unseen Monsterverse Titan. The trailer shows Kong, sporting his soon-to-be-introduced B.E.A.S.T. Glove, emerging from the ground near a pyramid in Egypt. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it was established that Monarch Outpost 65, which is located in Cairo, Egypt, was monitoring a creature named Sekhmet. Based on Sekhmet’s whereabouts and mythological connections, it’s likely that the Monsterverse’s take on Sekhmet has the physical characteristics of a lion.

In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet is a goddess of healing who created the deserts of Egypt with her hot breath. She was commonly characterized as a humanoid being with the head of a lioness. Since this feature is one of her defining qualities, it stands to reason that if Monarch named this Titan after Sekhmet, it bears some sort of resemblance to a lion. Its hot breath in Egyptian myths could also signal that it possesses a fire-breathing power or an attack similar to Godzilla’s atomic breath. But until it actually appears in the flesh, exactly what it looks like and what its abilities are will remain open to speculation.

If Sekhmet is anywhere in this region, Kong’s emergence there should be enough to stir it awake. In other words, an appearance from Sekhmet in Godzilla x Kong is a feasible scenario whether Kong’s reasons for being there have anything to do with her or not. If Kong entrenches on her territory, a fight could ensue.

What Happened To Sekhmet After Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

Godzilla roaring in King of the Monsters Ending

The possibility of Sekhmet appearing in Godzilla x Kong brings its current status in the Monsterverse into relevance. When Ghidorah roared, Sekhmet and all the other Titans whose names were on Monarch’s monitor screens left their resting places. While only some of them showed up at Boston in Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ ending, it can be assumed that all accepted Godzilla as their alpha, just like Rodan, Methuselah, Scylla, Behemoth, and the third MUTO.

In the Godzilla: Dominion graphic novel, set before Godzilla vs. Kong, it was revealed that Godzilla spent time patrolling the Earth, making sure his new minions weren’t causing trouble. At the end of the story, Godzilla chose to call them all back into hibernation, presumably because watching over them all had become exhausting. With that in mind, it’s reasonable to believe Sekhmet has been asleep since before Godzilla vs. Kong. As for where she is now, it’s possible that she returned to Egypt since it’s a place she’d be familiar with.

How Another Godzilla X Kong Tease Supports The Sekhmet Theory

Curiously, another moment in the trailer supports the notion that Godzilla x Kong might utilize King of the Monsters Titans like Sekhmet. At the 1:41 mark in the trailer, a Titan leg that looks remarkably like Scylla – the cephalopod Titan from King of the Monsters – is shown crashing into the ground. It could admittedly be a different creature, of course, but the similarities are striking enough to make Scylla’s inclusion a huge possibility. If one of the King of the Monsters Titans that Godzilla called back into hibernation is back, it could be that it’s not alone. If one was woken up, others could be around as well.

Using creatures like Scylla and Sekhmet is a move that would make a great deal of sense for the Monsterverse. Working original Titans like them into the story doesn’t come with the same hurdle as borrowing kaiju from Toho, which calls for Legendary to spend significant money on licensing rights. Not only that, but the identities of the Titans King of the Monsters set up have been major mysteries for five years now. If the Monsterverse intends to introduce multiple new monsters, paying off King of the Monsters’ teases would be a fitting way to go about that.

Why Sekhmet Could Be A Monsterverse Hero, Not A Villain

Egyptian goddess Sekhmet

While it may be easy to assume that any Titan Godzilla or Kong could meet in the movie will automatically be a rival, that may not be the case with Sekhmet. As things stand, there’s no official details on Sekhmet’s behavior, but her role in Egyptian mythology could be a hint at whose side she’ll find herself on if formally introduced in Godzilla x Kong. Some missing Monsterverse Titans, like Typhon, have names that associate them with villainous figures in mythology, thus implying that their Monsterverse counterparts are malevolent beings. Conversely, Sekhmet’s name has only positive connotations.

Being tied to a goddess of healing and a deity ancient Egyptians saw as a protector is a sign that Sekhmet is one of the Monsterverse’s heroic Titans. If that’s truly the case, she could join forces with Kong when he arrives in Egypt, whether it be for the betterment of the planet or a different reason entirely. As an alpha Titan, Kong may be able to command Sekhmet to help him face a greater threat.

Alternatively, Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ ending could be used to facilitate Sekhmet aligning with the two Titans. Godzilla seized control of the Titans woken up by Ghidorah (including Sekhmet) when he became the new alpha. If she still answers to Godzilla at this juncture in the Monsterverse timeline, she could be compelled to fight on his behalf in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
