New Ghostbusters TV Spots Reveal Female Slimer [Updated]

[UPDATE: “The Slimers” TV spot for Ghostbusters has been pulled for the time being.]

The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot featuring all-female leads (with the exception of Chris Hemsworth as “Secretary Thor”) clearly needed everyone’s favorite ectoplasmic pal, Slimer, to round out the cast. Although the film includes all-new main human characters – as played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon – the Slimer character (who was famous enough to even appear in The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series from 1986-1991) has, for all intents and purposes, stayed exactly the same.

While some fans may have expected to see a lady version of Slimer shoving multiple hot-dogs into her mouth in the Ghostbusters reboot, others were excited to see the inevitable return of the same-old Little Spud. Although Ghostbusters has already been met with backlash and divisiveness online (for multiple reasons) before the film’s theatrical release, most fans were happy to see Slimer back in action in the trailers, TV spots, merchandise, and the ever-so-popular Ecto-Cooler drink.

A new TV Spot titled “The Slimers” confirms a much debated rumor that began during pre-production – Slimer has a lady friend. We catch a short first look of the paranormal pair at the very end of the TV spot, laughing it up behind the wheel of a driving car. When first got a glimpse of the fan-favorite ghost there was no sign of a female version. While the original Slimer is returning, he brought along an identical girly ghost covered in too much makeup, what looks like to be a poofy blonde wig, and of course that signature mischievous grin.

It seems Ghostbusters screenwriter Katie Dippold (The Heat) and co-writer/director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) had another girl power surprise up his sleeve by creating a lady counterpart for Slimer rather than replacing him. Because Slimer has been single for so long it’s refreshing to see him find a woman, which might distract him from throwing snags into the Ghostbusters’ missions. Maybe this time “The Slimers” will be more helpful in defending the city from a paranormal takeover.

Mind you, we aren’t positive that the unnamed ghost is his wife or girlfriend; she could possibly be his mother or sister. Either way, expect to see some old-fashioned comedic mischief from these two in the Ghostbusters reboot, when the movie finale arrives.
