New Disney Animated Movie Strange World Casts Lucy Liu & Dennis Quaid

Disney fleshes out the voice cast of their upcoming feature film Strange World with several A-list talents. After the success of Encanto and Pixar’s Lightyear, this new pulp magazine-inspired sci-fi adventure will follow the Clade family venturing into a vibrant world filled with bizarre creatures. Elements of Jules Verne and ’50s movies like The Lost Planet permeate throughout the previously-released trailer for Strange World. The trailer primarily focused on Jake Gyllenhaal’s Searcher, but also showed him interacting with an unknown character.

Now, Variety reports that Walt Disney Animation Studios revealed the complete voice cast at France’s Annecy Animation Festival. Veteran actor Dennis Quaid will play grandfather Jaeger Clade, accompanied by Gabrielle Union as Searcher’s wife Meridian, Jaboukie Young-White as their son Ethan, and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, the head of the magical land of Avalonia, whom Searcher was speaking to in the trailer. The burly patriarch will be Quaid’s second-ever voiceover role, the first being 2007’s Battle for Terra.

Interestingly, the Annecy showcase did not appear to address Alan Tudyk’s mysterious role in the film. The chances are that he will supply his dynamic voice to the blue alien creature Splat, which appears to join the Clades in their journey, and who producer Ray Conli says “might just become your favorite character.” Disney regularly brings in top-level talent, but the news is no less exciting. Young-White and Liu are the most experienced voice actors in the cast, so Strange World is certainly daring to go where few others have in casting the rest for their silver tongues.
