As uplifting and positive as Back to the Future‘s ending may seem, a new Apple TV show reveals the dark truth behind it. After struggling to fix the roots of his parents’ relationship, Marty finally returns to the 1985 timeline with Doc’s help in Back to the Future‘s ending. To his dismay, he fails to save Doc from getting shot, but Doc surprisingly sits up and tells him that he managed to read his note in the past and wore a bulletproof vest.
When Marty wakes up the next day, even his parents seem happier than ever, proving that he successfully altered the past to ripple down into a better future for himself and his family. However, a new Apple TV sci-fi show that explores alternate timelines and worlds provides a new outlook on Back to the Future‘s ending. It proves that the classic science fiction movie’s ending was not as optimistic as it appeared to be.
