New Anti-Wolverine Weapon Means 1 Villain Can Officially Beat His Healing Factor

Warning: SPOILERS for Wolverine #43Wolverine is by far one of the deadliest, most resilient Marvel characters. Logan has been suffocated, disintegrated, immolated, and more, yet the fan-favorite member of the X-Men always manages to come back, thanks to his vaunted healing factor. However, unfortunately for Wolverine, one animalistic adversary has found a way past Logan’s mutant gifts, in a gamechanging progression of the ongoing “Sabretooth War.”

Wolverine #43 – by Benjamin Percy & Victor LaValle, Geoff Shaw, Alex Sinclair, and VC’s Cory Petit – finds Laura Kinney, the younger Wolverine, at the mercy of the murderous Sabretooth’s army of Multiversal variants. Taunting the Creeds, Laura attempts to goad them into turning on their Earth-616 alpha.

Filling Wolverine’s cage with the new Orchis-developed “Essence of Leech”, the Sabretooth of Earth-1912 cancels out Laura’s healing factor, ripping out Laura’s tongue. Sabretooth acknowledges the hero’s powers will metabolize the toxins and eventually heal, but this gas still has the potential to be devastating if employed against Logan and his allies.

“Essence Of Leech” Is A Threat To Wolverine – & All Mutantkind

Often associated with X-Factor, or the Morlocks, the mutant known as Leech has the ability to nullify the gifts of any mutant in his vicinity. Clearly, the anti-mutant menaces at Orchis have weaponized the young mutant’s power, synthesizing it into a dangerous concoction strong enough to limit the abilities of mutants like Laura and, presumably, her father, Logan. With the Sabretooths having access not only to the Essence of Leech but also other unrevealed bits of Orchis tech, things are far more dire for Wolverine than he realizes.

Sabretooth has yet to find a line he won’t cross when it comes to his personal vendetta against Wolverine, and he wouldn’t keep the Essence of Leech around if he didn’t plan on using it. Should Creed sufficiently negate Logan’s healing factor, the hero would be at a major disadvantage against his longtime enemy. Considering his role in the first event to be referred to as the Mutant Massacre, should Sabretooth goes as far use the Essence on the remaining mutants of Krakoa, there’s very little that could stop him.

Sabretooth Never Holds Back – And He Won’t Start Now

Wolverine and his arch enemy, Sabretooth.

Any time Wolverine and Sabretooth face off, neither bestial mutant can afford to hold back. While Logan has an innate nobility that differentiates him from Creed, that’s something of a disadvantage against an enemy that has no regard for anything but the X-Man’s pain and suffering. If Sabretooth gets the chance to use the Essence of Leech on Wolverine, he will without hesitation, and Marvel Comics’ clawed berserker will be left vulnerable like never before in his long life.
