New Aladdin Clips Take Fans To A Whole New World

Disney is ramping up publicity for their upcoming live-action movie Aladdin, with clips now available to view online. This comes after the trailers have already shown fans what they are in store for when Aladdin comes to the big screen this month.

Fans will be delighted to see some of their favourite characters coming to life in the excerpts that feature Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and Genie. Unlike a trailer, these clips are taken straight from the movie, giving fans a chance to whet their appetite even more for the much-anticipated live-action remake.

The clips, released over the last two days by Walt Disney Studios, are available to view now on YouTube. One of the clips is the famous balcony scene, titled, “A Whole New World” Film Clip, in which Aladdin shows up with his magic carpet at the palace, before whisking away Princess Jasmine for their magic carpet ride, in what must be one of the most recognized scenes from a Disney animated movie ever. You can view the clip here:

The second clip features the Genie, played by Will Smith, and is an excellent opportunity to get a glimpse of how Smith will make this character his own, given that it is so synonymous with the late, great, Robin Williams. With the title, “I Wish to Become a Prince” Film Clip, the scene shows fans the moment that Aladdin asks Genie to grant him the wish of making him a prince. Shorter than the previous excerpt, this clip showcase Smith as the granter of wishes, as he puts his own spin on the beloved character. Different in style, tone and dialogue, Genie is shown questioning Aladdin of his motives, asking why he would want to be a prince when Jasmine likes him as he is, giving us a sense of the conflict within the story and the character that this remake may wish to explore further.

Aladdin is now the next in a string of live-action remakes from Disney, following the likes of Maleficent, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo. While some are sceptical about Disney seeming to be rehashing some of their old box office successes, others are delighted to see their much-loved characters now come to life in a way that adds dimension to the story and to fans’ experience. And with The Lion King hot on its heels, with a release date of July 2019, and many more live-action remakes in development, it looks likely that this is a strategy that Disney is more than happy to pursue. Time will tell, but it looks likely that this Aladdin remake will be popular with fans and fare well at the box office.
