Never-Before-Seen Version of Scott Pilgrim vs The World Coming To Theaters

Never-Before-Seen Version of Scott Pilgrim vs The World Coming To Theaters

A never-before-seen version of Edgar Wright’s cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs. The World returns to US theaters in April with completely remastered visuals and sound. Based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World starred Michael Cera in the title role, alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers. It also has the distinction of starring a former Superman (Brandon Routh), as well as the future Captain America (Chris Evans) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson).

The manic, video-game-inspired movie follows Scott’s attempts to defeat Ramona’s seven evil exes, a requirement for dating her. Despite failing to light up the box office, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World has gone on to become a cult hit, with many fans hosting viewing parties and the game becoming so popular that it got a physical release earlier this year. Wright celebrated Scott Pilgrim’s 10th anniversary with a slew of behind-the-scenes photos in August last year after the ongoing coronavirus pandemic canceled plans for a major theater re-release. But now, those plans are back on as the world slowly navigates its way out of the crisis.

Dolby announced on Wednesday that Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is returning to US theaters on April 30 with entirely remastered visuals and sound for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Wright says this version features the “best specs” for the movie and promises fans will “get a kick” out of seeing it on the big screen with all the new bells and whistles. The re-release also has a kinetic new trailer and bright poster, which you can see below Wright’s comments:

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was designed for the big screen and for the best sound systems. To be able to see it with the best specs is obviously any filmmaker’s dream. You want people to see it as good as it could possibly be. I suspect that if you’re a fan of the movie, you’re going to get such a kick out of seeing it like this.

Wright also said in a tweet that there would be a 4k UHD Blu-Ray release of this version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World at some point in the future, good news for fans who won’t be able to make it to the theater in late April. For those who can make it, though, either because they’ve been vaccinated or because they are willing to risk going out to the theater during the pandemic, the theater release is a chance to revisit a favorite movie on the big screen with improved sound and visuals.

Despite essentially being a romantic comedy. Wright’s trademark visual style, complete with inventive sound effects, manic action scenes, and quick cuts that enhance the movie’s humor, is best suited to being seen on the big screen. That makes this re-release of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World a tantalizing prospect for die-hard fans and as good a movie as any to mark the first visit back to the movie theater.
