Netflix’s New Horror Movie Sequel Confirms Its Best Stranger Things Replacement After Season 5

Netflix’s New Horror Movie Sequel Confirms Its Best Stranger Things Replacement After Season 5

Although Stranger Things’ fifth season is set to be the show’s last outing, Netflix thankfully has another project that can replace the series and hopefully bring just as much success to the streaming service: Fear Street 4. First airing in 2016, Stranger Things was arguably Netflix’s biggest original series, and followed a group of young friends in the ‘80s as they battled against demogorgons that invaded their small town from another dimension. The show become an international success and was given four more seasons, in which the writers expanded this story and introduced even more beloved characters – but Season 5 is going to be the end of this unique phenomenon.

With Stranger Things gone, Netflix is going to be missing one of the biggest properties that initially brought success to the streaming service. It was because of Stranger Things that many audiences opted to subscribe to Netflix in the first place, and while the service has provided plenty more successful shows since then, the end of Stranger Things does pose a small threat to the streaming giant. Thankfully, Netflix has seemingly found a solution to this problem to keep all their subscribers with one highly-anticipated horror movie sequel.

Fear Street 4 Is Giving Netflix A Perfect Franchise Replacement For Stranger Things

Netflix recently confirmed the existence of Fear Street 4, the latest instalment in the horror series that was first released in 2021. Much like Stranger Things, the Fear Street movies have a unique retro atmosphere that plays with the nostalgia of the horror genre and uses atmospheric storytelling to suck the audience into these different time periods. The first movie was particularly compared with Stranger Things because of its neon ‘80s style, which returned in the third movie and proved to be a staple of the franchise.

Bringing back Fear Street is a smart decision on Netflix’s behalf that should help fill the void left by Stranger Things. Both projects are filled with nostalgic production, charming young characters, and effective horror that keeps audiences on their toes from start to finish. Not many details about Fear Street 4 have been announced yet, but Netflix will probably learn from the success of Stranger Things and give it a very similar atmosphere that audiences may find comforting.

Fear Street Is Way Closer To Being Netflix’s Stranger Things Successor Than Wednesday

Netflix’s New Horror Movie Sequel Confirms Its Best Stranger Things Replacement After Season 5

Before the announcement of Fear Street 4, Netflix had originally suggested that Tim Burton’s Wednesday was going to be the primary focus after Stranger Things’ conclusion. This initially made sense given their shared horror atmospheres and young casts, but Fear Street is actually a much more fitting successor. Not only does it (potentially) take place in the same time period, but its retro style is also much closer to Stranger Things than Wednesday’s gothic teen drama. This just proves that while Wednesday was an acceptable replacement for Stranger Things, Fear Street 4 is just much more similar.
