Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Casts Sabrina’s Best Friend

Netflix’s upcoming Chilling Adventures of Sabrina TV show has cast Jaz Sinclair as the titular teen’s best friend. With Riverdale, Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was able to reinvent and make household names out of characters most people only knew from the grocery store check out line. Season 1 of the series became a smash success for The CW, and its time on Netflix saw even more fans (especially international ones) come aboard the show. Given that latter bit of information, it wasn’t surprising when Netflix picked up a Sabrina the Teenage Witch show to series.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was once conceived of as a show for The CW, but the move to Netflix has seen its timetable accelerate. The Sabrina series will arrive in 2018 on the streaming service, transporting viewers to a suburban setting where mysticism lurks around every corner. And while that description seems tailor-made for The CW, it should do equally well on Netflix as many viewers don’t even stream Riverdale and the Arrowverse shows until they arrive on the site. Kiernan Shipka was cast as Sabrina Spellman recently, and now the lead character has just gained a best friend.

THR is reporting that Sinclair has joined the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina cast as Rosalind Walker. The character, who appears to be one invented for the TV series, will be the ‘brash, empowered and outspoken daughter of Greendale’s minister‘ as well as being Sabrina’s closest friend.

Like Shipka, Sinclair has spent years making a name for herself as an up-and-coming young performer. She will next appear on the big screen in Slender Man, with her previous body of work including the film Paper Towns, as well as the TV series Revolution and The CW’s The Vampire Diaries. Adding to her genre and supernatural experience, she’s even a known quantity on Netflix, having already appeared on the anthology TV show Easy.

While Netflix certainly seems like a good fit for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, some fans are understandably worried about it existing outside of its fellow Archie Comics series. For now, there are no Riverdale and Sabrina crossover plans, but that’s hardly surprising. Separate networks isn’t really the biggest hindrance, as Netflix is essentially The CW’s international arm at this point.

Still, don’t be surprised if some Easter eggs and references start appearing on both shows to sow the seeds for a future crossover. After all, Supergirl teamed up with The Flash long before the former show jumped ship from CBS to The CW.
