Netflix Wants Its Own Snyder Cut With Zack Snyder’s New Movie (But It Won’t Work)

Netflix Wants Its Own Snyder Cut With Zack Snyder’s New Movie (But It Won’t Work)

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire is the newest film from the legendary director, and while Netflix is hoping to use the film to make its own version of the Snyder Cut, it’s not going to work. The Rebel Moon franchise is getting a lot of attention from Netflix, with Zack Snyder’s upcoming movie series being hyped up as potentially the next Star Wars. A Rebel Moon cinematic universe is already in the works, but Netflix’s treatment of the first film Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire may end up costing the success of the Zack Snyder franchise.

Zack Snyder has been directing films for decades now, but his popularity really took off when he was tasked with helming the DCEU. Starting with Man of Steel, Zack Snyder directed the franchise’s biggest films, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and parts of 2017’s Justice League. However, Snyder had to leave Justice League due to personal matters, with Warner Bros. finishing the film without him. This led to a years-long campaign for Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut, a director’s cut of the film more aligned with Snyder’s original vision. This eventually happened, and the Snyder Cut is now the preferred version of Justice League for most fans.

Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cut Of Rebel Moon Is Already Expected To Be The Better Version

A director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire has already been confirmed by Netflix, and it is already expected to be better than the original film. Snyder has already said that both Rebel Moon movies will receive R-rated cuts, to the excitement of many fans. However, the negative reviews of Zack Snyder’s first Rebel Moon film have hurt the original movie’s chances of success.

Many of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire‘s criticisms have had to do with the director’s cut. Some reviewers have claimed that it is clear some scenes were cut and held back for the director’s cut, making the original release feel like an intentionally unfinished version. This seems to be in service of drumming up another Snyder Cut campaign, holding the director’s cut as Zack Snyder’s true vision for the film.

Rebel Moon’s Different Snyder Cuts Won’t Work The Same Way As Justice League

Netflix Wants Its Own Snyder Cut With Zack Snyder’s New Movie (But It Won’t Work)

While Netflix will try to create hype surrounding the Rebel Moon Snyder Cuts, there is no way that they will work as well as Justice League‘s campaigns. Firstly, Zack Snyder filmed scenes specifically for the release of the first Rebel Moon director’s cut (via THR). This isn’t really how director’s cuts are supposed to work, with the Snyder Cut of Justice League being an exception due to the circumstances surrounding the film’s development.

However, the biggest reason that Rebel Moon‘s director’s cut won’t work is Zack Snyder’s thoughts on the film. Unlike Justice League, Zack Snyder worked on the first Rebel Moon movie throughout, with him being happy with the finished product. The reason fans wanted to see the Snyder Cut of Justice League is that the original cut was not Zack Snyder’s vision for the film. However, the original release of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire is, meaning that the director’s cut will simply feature extra padding and not much else.
