Zack Snyder has been directing films for decades now, but his popularity really took off when he was tasked with helming the DCEU. Starting with Man of Steel, Zack Snyder directed the franchise’s biggest films, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and parts of 2017’s Justice League. However, Snyder had to leave Justice League due to personal matters, with Warner Bros. finishing the film without him. This led to a years-long campaign for Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut, a director’s cut of the film more aligned with Snyder’s original vision. Firstly, Zack Snyder filmed scenes specifically for the release of the first Rebel Moon director’s cut (via THR). This isn’t really how director’s cuts are supposed to work, with the Snyder Cut of Justice League being an exception due to the circumstances surrounding the film’s development.
However, the biggest reason that Rebel Moon‘s director’s cut won’t work is Zack Snyder’s thoughts on the film. Unlike Justice League, Zack Snyder worked on the first Rebel Moon movie throughout, with him being happy with the finished product. The reason fans wanted to see the Snyder Cut of Justice League is that the original cut was not Zack Snyder’s vision for the film. However, the original release of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire is, meaning that the director’s cut will simply feature extra padding and not much else.
