Netflix TV Remake Of Anne Hathaway’s Romance Movie Becomes A Hit

The Netflix series One Day has become a hit on the platform. One Day is a TV miniseries remake of the 2011 Anne Hathaway romance film of the same name. Like its predecessor, the One Day TV show tells the story of two teenagers who meet on graduation night and fall for each other while the threat of having to go their separate ways looms over them the next day.

Now, One Day has achieved success on the Netflix global top 10 for television. One Day came in at no. 3 on the chart for the week of February 5–February 11, with 5.3 million views. Topping the list this week was Griselda at no. 1 with 10.3 million views and The Tourist season 1 at no. 2 with 6.8 million views.

One Day’s Netflix Success Explained

Netflix TV Remake Of Anne Hathaway’s Romance Movie Becomes A Hit

One Day just released on Netflix on February 8, meaning that its viewing numbers were only counted for roughly half of the days of the Netflix global top 10 period. This fact makes One Day’s success additionally impressive, as it managed to make it all the way to no. 3 on the charts. In this slot, it ousted more established shows such as House, Love on the Spectrum, and Young Sheldon.

One Day is also one of the few romance shows on the chart, which was largely dominated this week by crime, procedural, and mystery genre shows. Though they often leave something to be desired in terms of quality, Netflix generally does well with romance content whether it be in film or TV. Past successful titles include The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchises and My Life with the Walter Boys.

One Day Cast & Character Guide

Netflix’s miniseries One Day includes a number of lovable characters played by a cast of mostly phenomenal upcoming actors with a few big names too.

Unlike Netflix’s original romance content, One Day benefits by nature of being an adaptation. The Hathaway film on which it’s based has a relatively devoted fan base, and Hathaway herself has only become a bigger star since then. With both the Netflix romance draw and an existing fan base, One Day is well-positioned for success, which will hopefully continue as it furthers its run on Netflix.
