Netflix To Adapt 2 More Books By Fool Me Once Author, Report Details Mystery & Crime Stories

Netflix is moving forward with two more adaptations from Fool Me Once author Harlan Coben. Telling the story of a woman who discovers that her husband is very much alive after mourning him, Fool Me Once became the most-watched show for the week of its debut. Since the mystery thriller arrived on the first day of the new year, it has garnered 37.1 million views and was watched for 238.2 million hours. In its second week, the limited series continued to outrank other well-performing Netflix Originals globally, such as The Brothers Sun and My Life with the Walter Boys.

Deadline confirms that Netflix is committed to two other adaptations from the prolific Coben, who wrote the book on which Fool Me Once is based. The two adaptations are Missing You and Run Away. Both are intended as limited series, with Missing You beginning production in spring 2024. They’ll be produced by Quay Street Productions, the ITV Studios-backed production venture founded by Nicola Shindler, which also oversaw Fool Me Once. Coben will executive produce through his company Final Twist Productions.

Missing You focuses on Kat Donovan, a detective who discovers her estranged fiancé on a dating app. This somehow brings her back to the mystery of her father’s murder. Originally published in 2014, Missing You intertwines Kat’s past with her fiancé, Jeff, right alongside a mysterious conspiracy. The project will be written by Victoria Asare-Archer, who wrote two episodes of Coben’s Stay Close for Netflix in 2021. Sean Spencer will direct, with Fool Me Once writer Danny Brocklehurst executive producing.

As for Run Away, published in 2019, it will be written by Brocklehurst. It follows the character of Simon, whose idyllic life takes a shocking turn when his daughter Paige runs away, only to later be found on drugs. Simon’s investigation into Paige’s altered lifestyle brings him into the criminal underworld, where the twists only get more dangerous from there.

Fool Me Once is not the first collaboration between Coben, who executive produces the show, and Netflix. Other television adaptations of Coben’s novels include The Stranger, Safe, and Stay Close. He also had the short-lived Harlan Coben’s Shelter on Prime Video. With the notable success of his recent work, his past and future adaptations are likely to get a boost.
