Netflix: The Best TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (October 4)

Netflix: The Best TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (October 4)

On the first weekend of October 2019, Netflix is bringing a new season of an animated series, a horror movie, and a new type of superhero TV series. October is usually reserved for horror-oriented content to awake the Halloween spirit, and with this in mind, Netflix is bringing some interesting content this weekend.

The last week of September saw the arrival of The Politician, In the Shadow of the Moon, and Skylines, as well as American Horror Story: Apocalypse, preparing the audience for spookier content (or not, but it fits). Netflix went a bit wild with its October 1 additions, with titles like Bad Boys and the full Scream saga, although the latter will only be available for six days, so you better plan a Scream binge watch before they leave.

As for original content, the streaming platform is bringing a new season of an adult animated series, a Stephen King adaptation that doesn’t include clowns of any kind, and a sci-fi superhero series that is not what you would expect. Here are the best titles coming to Netflix this weekend – October 4.

Big Mouth Season 3

Netflix: The Best TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (October 4)

The teens and their hormone monsters are back with a third season. Big Mouth, created by Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett, began its run in 2017 and was quickly renewed for season 3 in 2018. Big Mouth season 3 was preceded by a Valentine’s Day special released in February 2019 to set the tone for the season.

Big Mouth will continue following Nick, Jessi, Jay, Missy, and Andrew as they navigate through puberty and come across with new obstacles, such as toxic masculinity and the social pressure of losing their virginities. This season will also have a crossover with Queer Eye, where the Fab 5 will give Coach Steve a makeover.

In The Tall Grass

Your dose of horror for the weekend comes with In The Tall Grass. Written and directed by Vincenzo Natali (Splice), the movie is based on Stephen King and Joe Hill’s novella of the same name. The story follows siblings Cal (played by Avery Whitted) and Becky Demuth (Laysla De Oliveira) who after hearing a young boy’s cry for help go into a vast field of grass – but getting out of there won’t be easy. It’s horror, psychological thriller, and drama, all in one package from the minds of the Kings. And remember: it’s just grass.

Raising Dion

Raising Dion

Based on the comic book and short film of the same name by Dennis Liu, Raising Dion is a superhero sci-fi series, but don’t expect characters in colorful costumes and capes – this is a story more drama-oriented. Raising Dion follows Nicole Reese (Alisha Wainwright), a single mom raising her son, Dion, after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). Nothing out of the ordinary up to that point, with the ups and downs that come with raising a child by yourself, but when Dion begins to manifest magical, superhero-like abilities, Nicole must do everything she can to keep her son’s gifts a secret and protect him from others who want to exploit him, while also trying to figure out the origin of his abilities.
