Netflix: The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (November 27)

This weekend, Netflix will bring a documentary about a popular pop-star, a drama movie based on a book, the sequel to a Christmas movie, and a drama movie produced by the Russo brothers. With theaters around the world closing again due to the coronavirus pandemic, studios keep rescheduling their projects and sending some of those that couldn’t get a proper theatrical release to different streaming platforms. Netflix has already housed a couple of movies, and it continues to add new content every week, ensuring that its subscribers have a variety of TV shows and movies to choose from.

Last weekend, the streaming giant added the drama movie Loving, the documentary Whose Streets?, Robert Rodriguez’s action movie Machete Kills, and the animated short-film If Anything Happens I Love You, along with the documentary series We Are The Champions, the Christmas rom-com The Princess Switch: Switched Again, and the holiday musical Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square. This weekend, Netflix won’t see much new licensed content, but it will welcome the action thriller Hard to Kill and the Filipino fantasy comedy Fantastica.

Shawn Mendes: In Wonder features years of footage from his early days as “precocious troubadour” to global superstar, along with access to his private life at home and on the road.

Hillbilly Elegy

Netflix’s Hillbilly Elegy is a drama movie directed by Ron Howard and based on the 2016 memoir of the same name by J.D. Vance. It’s the story of J.D. J.D. must navigate the complex dynamics of his Appalachian family, including his volatile relationship with his mother, Bev (Amy Adams), who’s struggling with addiction. Kurt Russell is back as Santa Claus on Netflix this weekend in The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, the sequel to the 2018 movie The Christmas Chronicles. Two years have passed since Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) saved Christmas, and now Kate is a cynical teenager reluctantly spending Christmas in Cancun with her mom’s new boyfriend and his son, Jack (Jahzir Bruno). Unwilling to accept this new version of her family, Kate decides to run away, but when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel threatens to destroy the North Pole and end Christmas for good, Kate and Jack are unexpectedly pulled into a new adventure with Santa Claus himself. Also starring is Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus, who appeared in a cameo in the first movie.
