On the first week of May, Netflix is bringing a new documentary, a limited series, and the second season of a comedy series. With the current coronavirus pandemic, streaming services are busier than ever, and Netflix has made sure its subscribers keep getting new content every week. April was packed with new seasons of fan-favorite series like Money Heist and The Last Kingdom, new shows like the adult animated series The Midnight Gospel and the comedy #blackAF, and movies like The Willoughbys, Extraction, and Love Wedding Repeat.

April also brought a bunch of licensed content, most notably Molly’s Game, Taxi Driver, Sherlock Holmes, and the complete Matrix series. The first day of May saw the arrival of Back to the Future and its sequel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Sinister, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, among many others. This week will add the animated movie Arctic Dogs, the crime thriller Hangman, the psychological thriller House at the End of the Street, season 2 of Charmed and season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy.

Netflix’s Becoming is a documentary on former First Lady, Michelle Obama. Directed by Nadia Hallgren, Becoming offers an intimate look into the life of Michelle Obama, showing her connection with the community during the 2019 book tour for her bestselling memoir of the same name, as well as a look back at her life before she became the First Lady.

The Eddy

Netflix’s The Eddy is a French musical drama miniseries created by Jack Thorne and directed by Damien Chazelle, Houda Benyamina, Laïla Marrakchi, and Alan Poul. It follows Elliot Udo (André Holland), a once celebrated musician from New York now running a small jazz club called The Eddy in a multicultural neighborhood in Paris. Elliot finds himself dealing with his past, managing the house band, and struggling to keep the club open as he finds out his partner is involved in questionable business practices. Also starring are Amandla Stenberg, Joanna Kulig, Tahar Rahim, and Leïla Bekhti.

After a bit over a year since the first season was released, Dead To Me is back with its second season on Netflix this weekend. This black comedy follows Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini), two women who meet at a therapy group of bereft spouses. Dead To Me season 2 will pick up after that big (and bloody) backyard reveal, and will see the two friends struggling to keep their secrets buried for as long as they can.
