Netflix: The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (July 10)

This weekend, Netflix is adding a new drama series, a documentary series starring a well-known actor, and an action movie based on a comic book. Although cinemas around the world were preparing to reopen soon, the coronavirus pandemic has delayed their plans again, and so streaming services will continue to be the main source of entertainment of many. Luckily, Netflix still has a lot of content to share.

Last weekend, the streaming giant welcomed a long list of licensed content, most notably A Walk To Remember, Million Dollar Baby, Schindler’s List, Donnie Brasco, Mean Streets, and Cloud Atlas, and welcomed the reboot of Unsolved Mysteries, the fantasy series Warrior Nun, a new adaptation of the novel series The Baby-Sitters Club, and the comedy movie Desperados. This weekend, Netflix will add the documentary A Kid From Coney Island, the animated movie Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, the road trip comedy The Long Dumb Road, and the rom-com How Do You Know.

As for original content, Netflix users will get to enjoy an Australian drama series, a documentary series led by Zac Efron, and a superhero movie based on a comic book (though not from any connected universe). Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend – July 10.

Stateless is an Australian drama series coming to Netflix this weekend. The show is partly inspired by the story of Cornelia Rau, an Australian permanent resident who was unlawfully detained under the Australian Government’s mandatory detention program. The series focuses on four strangers in an immigration detention center in the Australian desert: an airline hostess who is escaping a suburban cult, an Afghan refugee fleeing persecution, a young father escaping a dead-end job, and a bureaucrat caught up in a national scandal. Stateless had its world premiere at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival and premiered on ABC Australia shortly after.

Together they will travel to France, Puerto Rico, London, Iceland, Costa Rica, Peru, and Sardinia, where they will search for healthy, sustainable ways to live – and eat a lot of great food.

The Old Guard

The Old Guard

Based on the comic book of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, Netflix‘s The Old Guard is a superhero movie directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Charlize Theron. The story follows a group of mercenaries led by Andy (Theron), who have a mysterious inability to die and who have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. When they are recruited to take on an emergency mission, their abilities are suddenly exposed, and it’s up to Andy and new soldier Nile (KiKi Layne) to help the rest eliminate the threat of those looking to replicate and monetize their powers.
