Netflix: The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (August 21)

This weekend, Netflix will add a new documentary, a sci-fi series, and will see the return of the devil himself. Streaming services continue to be the main source of entertainment of many due to the coronavirus pandemic, which forced theaters around the world to close and studios to reschedule their releases. Luckily, many have opted to release their movies on streaming platforms, and aside from that, Netflix already has new content ready to be added every week, so its subscribers have nothing to worry about.

Last weekend, the streaming giant added the movies Nightcrawler, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Scary Movie 5, Safety Not Guaranteed, Johnny English, Les Misérables, and all seasons of The Legend of Korra, as well as the documentary miniseries (Un)Well, the Colombian crime series El Robo del Siglo, and the superhero thriller Project Power. This weekend won’t see much licensed content, but the platform will welcome the comedy movie Drunk Parents, Good Kisser, and the horror movie 1BR.

As for original content, Netflix users will get to enjoy a new documentary series, a German sci-fi series, and season 5 of the devil’s adventures on Earth. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend – August 21.

High Score

Netflix: The Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (August 21)

Netflix’s catalogue of documentaries continues expanding, and this weekend’s addition is High Score, created by France Costrel. This docuseries of six episodes explores the rise of the golden era in gaming in the 1980s and the 1990s, from the days of Atari to modern online gaming and esports. High Score features interviews and animated segments rendered in a pixel art style reminiscent of old video games – and is narrated by Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario.

Biohackers

Biohackers Netflix

Biohackers is a German sci-fi TV show. It follows Mia Akerlund (Luna Wedler), a medicine student at the University of Freiburg where she meets Jasper (Adrian Julius Tillmann), a talented biology student, and Niklas (Thomas Prenn), Jasper’s strange roommate. Mia’s interest in biohacking technology leads her to the world of illegal genetic experimentation, and when she learns of breakthrough biohacking research results that have landed in the wrong hands, she has to decide whether to protect her friends or avenger her brother’s death.

Lucifer – season 5

Lucifer season 5 Tom Ellis

Lucifer’s story on Earth continues with a new season, the second to be directly released on Netflix after the series was canceled by Fox. Season 5 of Lucifer will introduce the devil’s twin brother, Michael, who secretly takes the former’s place while he’s back in Hell. Lucifer will then have to return and face the mess that Michael left, while also (finally) confronting his feelings for Chloe. Luckily for fans of the series, season 5 won’t be the last, as Netflix renewed it for a sixth (and now final) season.
