In 2022, Wednesday impressed audiences with its talented cast and spooky ambiance, and though anticipation is high for the second season, it seems that Netflix is already planning its best Wednesday replacement in its new live-action Scooby-Doo series. It was recently reported by Variety that Netflix is potentially signing on to produce a live-action Scooby-Doo television series with Berlanti Productions on board, and writers Josh Applebaum and Scott Rosenberg taking the helm on the scripts. This is far from the first live-action adaptation of the beloved cartoon, however, Netflix may have something truly exciting on their hands.

Meanwhile, anticipation has been high for Wednesday season 2 essentially since the end of Wednesday season 1. The series was such a smash hit that it became one of the most streamed original series on Netflix ever, coming in third under Stranger Things and Squid Game. The most unfortunate part of this is that Wednesday season 2 won’t hit television screens until 2025, leaving fans wanting more teenage drama, iconic characters, and dark ambiance wrapped into one. Ironically, it seems that Netflix’s newest Scooby-Doo project may be the perfect answer to this predicament.

Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo Could Be A Perfect Wednesday Replacement (With The Right Tone)

Scooby-Doo brings everything Wednesday does

Although The Addams Family franchise and Scooby-Doo seem quite different from each other, Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo would actually be the perfect replacement for Wednesday if done correctly. Both series are made up of beloved and iconic characters. The Addams and the Mystery Gang have equally nostalgic and interesting characters. Furthermore, both shows set up a particularly teenage story. Though no story details have been confirmed for Scooby-Doo yet, there is no denying the Mystery Gang is all teens who likely have lives outside of ghost hunting, and this could perfectly align with Wednesday’s age and circumstances.

This would make it closer to Wednesday. But even then, Wednesday also has the ability to be goofy, while also taking its darker moments seriously. If Scooby-Doo can let itself be more creepy, it could be more like Wednesday, and also, feel different from past iterations of the show.

Wednesday is an incredibly popular series, but it doesn’t seem like the type of show that can last forever. Jenna Ortega was already pretty big in Hollywood before Wednesday due to her horror movie roles, and now, she’s even more popular. It doesn’t seem likely that she will remain with the series for an extended period. In this way, Wednesday is on a ticking clock, and Scooby-Doo can easily take up the reins.
