Netflix Debuts Official Disenchantment Trailer at Comic-Con 2018

Yesterday, Netflix debuted the first official trailer for Matt Groening’s new series, Disenchantment, at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Disenchantment is Groening’s first new project in almost 20 years, and it’s the first time that the infamous creator of The Simpsons and Futurama has collaborated with Netflix. Although the project was first announced over a year ago, people didn’t get their first look at Disenchantment until just two months ago.

It wasn’t long after that Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Disenhantment, giving audiences their first taste of a story that follows Princess Bean in the medieval kingdom of Dreamland. According to the show’s synopsis, the series centers on the hard-drinking Bean and her two companions – Elfo and Luci, who’ve been described as a feisty elf and a personal demon, respectively – as they encounter all sorts of creatures, from humans to trolls, on their misadventures throughout the kingdom. Netflix ordered 10 episodes of Disenchantment for its first season, and they have now given viewers a proper look at what those episodes might entail.

Netflix debuted the first trailer for Disenchantment during the TV show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, and then immediately released it on their YouTube channel for the rest of the world to see. In the above trailer, Princess Bean leaves her fiancé at the altar, flies with mythical beasts, and makes a crazy horse-and-carriage jump across a river. It’s clearly a different take on what it means to be a princess.

Disenchantment is certainly less family-oriented than Groening’s previous work, and it seems to align with Netflix’s experiments with adult animation, such as BoJack Horseman and F Is For Family. The trailer showcases Groening’s signature style of animation and features a medieval-inspired rendition of David Bowie’s Rebel Rebel to boot. The show’s cast is nothing to scoff at, either. It stars Abbi Jacobson as Bean, with her friends Luci and Elfo being played by Eric Andre and Nat Faxon, respectively. It also features John DiMaggio, Billy West, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, and many more.

Some of these actors have worked extensively with Groening in the past, but two new voices are noteworthy: The IT Crowd‘s Matt Berry and Noel Fielding have joined the lineup for Disenchantment, which will surely make for some high quality humor. The first season of Disenchantment premieres next month, and it’s already signed on for a second season. It has been a very long time since the iconic Groening has released something new, so exciting times are ahead. If his past work is anything to go by, Disenchantment will be fantastic.
