Nebula’s New MCU Look Revealed In Promo For 2023’s Final Marvel Release

A new look for Guardian of the Galaxy member Nebula has been revealed ahead of her return in Marvel Studios’ What If…? season 2. Karen Gillan has portrayed Nebula since 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and since then, she has transformed from the tormented and villainous daughter of Thanos into a bona fide MCU hero. Gillan also voiced Nebula in 2021’s What If…? season 1, and though she hasn’t been confirmed to be returning for 2023’s follow-up season, an alternate version of Nebula will be featured in the MCU’s What If…? season 2, fit with a brand-new heroic role and an exciting new costume as the MCU’s newest cosmic superhero.

In recent promotional material for an updated version of the Marvel Future Fight mobile video game, Nebula’s new look from What If…? season 2 has finally been revealed. This sees Nebula as a member of the Nova Corps, while she also sports a Ravager jacket and Yondu’s signature head-fin that allows her to control her own Yaka arrow.

What If…? season 1 featured a variant of Nebula who aided T’Challa’s Star-Lord, but season 2’s version seems to be a much more hardened version of the Guardian of the Galaxy. With What If…? season 2 set to premiere on December 22, 2023, Nebula’s new look will soon debut in the MCU.

What Other New Characters Will Debut In What If…? Season 2?

As well as introducing a brand-new variant of Nebula, What If…? season 2’s cast will also feature several other new variants of iconic MCU characters on Disney+. New versions of most of the MCU’s primary heroes will be featured, including Tony Stark’s Iron Man, Peter Quill, Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange. New villains will also be featured, as Hela, the Goddess of Death, will come across the Ten Rings. What If…? season 2 will debut a new team of Avengers, too, comprising the likes of Hank Pym’s Ant-Man, Bill Foster’s Giant-Man, T’Chaka’s Black Panther and Mar-Vell, as the superhero team forms in 1988 instead of 2012.

Perhaps the most exciting addition to What If…? season 2 is Kahhori, an original MCU character who finds herself becoming empowered by the Tesseract after the Infinity Stone lands on Earth prior to the colonization of America. Kahhori’s roots in Native American history will be explored in detail in What If…? season 2, with her episode being created in conjunction with members of the Mohawk Nation and with dialogue being spoken in the Mohawk language. Following her debut in What If…? season 2, Kahhori has the perfect opportunity to crossover into the live-action MCU.
