Naughty Dog Releases New Merch Ahead Of The Last Of Us Day

On the back of its gaming epic, The Last of Us: Part II, Naughty Dog has released new limited-edition merchandise. This weekend marks seven years since the original game of the franchise was released, something that Naughty Dog and fans alike celebrate annually on a day they have affectionately labelled “The Last of Us Day”. The Last of Us, and its sequel The Last of Us Part II are revolutionary entries within the gaming industry. Both AAA blockbusters, they are cinematically and thematically pioneers in the gaming industry.

Earlier this week, Naughty Dog released an Instagram post about the change in name for the 26th of September. Originally called “Outbreak Day,” the developers decided to rebrand the faux holiday as “The Last of Us Day” out of respect for the current global pandemic. At the end of the post, there were some strong hints that either a DLC or a multiplayer mode will be coming to The Last of Us Part II. Curious followers had to be patient though, as they would not be told any more details until “a few days” after the post.

A few days have since passed, and Naughty Dog has released the first of its “exciting new things” that the original Instagram post alluded to. Not a DLC or Multiplayer mode (yet), but instead a range of limited-edition merchandise has become available for fans of the franchise. Included in the selection of collectibles are a The Last of Us boardgame, Joel and Ellie mini-figures, and a free downloadable The Last of Us Part II beach theme – among other items and downloads.

Perhaps one of the more unusual items featured on the list of previews is an official cosplay guide of controversial character Abby. The introduction of this character to the series, and the acts that she commits throughout the gameplay (don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers here), have resulted in Abby becoming one of the most dividing figures in gaming. She is hotly debated throughout the video game communities, with some blaming her for ruining the The Last of Us franchise, and other empathizing with her character.

As The Last of Us Day is not officially until tomorrow, these items are only just the start of the new and exciting things that Naughty Dog has promised fans. There is still hope from many that a DLC will be announced tomorrow, with Tommy appearing to be a favorite pick for players. Only time will tell.
