Napoleon Box Office Breaks Ridley Scott’s 13-Year Opening Weekend Curse

Napoleon has broken a box office curse for director Ridley Scott. The movie, which follows the rise and fall of the titular French leader, stars Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role. The story also focuses on Napoleon’s relationship with his first wife, Empress Joséphine (Vanessa Kirby). After its Thanksgiving weekend premiere, it is set to stream on Apple TV+ at an as-yet undisclosed date.

Per Deadline, the Napoleon box office is projected to close out its Thanksgiving weekend opening with a 5-day gross between $32 and $33 million. This makes it the first adult-oriented or historical drama that the director has put out since 2010’s Robin Hood that has opened over $30 million. While the holiday weekend helped boost its total, it nevertheless handily outgrossed the second-place Scott title in the interim, which was 2021’s House of Gucci at $14.4 million.
