Naomi Season Two Sees the Justice League’s Best New Member Go Solo

Warning: contains preview pages for Naomi Season Two #1!

The best new member of the Justice League, Naomi McDuffie, once more has her own comic in a brand new, six-issue miniseries from her original creators. Naomi Season Two #1 goes on sale in print and digital March 8 and promises fans more great adventures from this breakout character, who will soon make her live-action debut in a new CW series early next year.

When writer Brian Michael Bendis arrived at DC Comics after nearly two decades at Marvel, he injected new life not only into existing properties such as Superman, but created new characters as well, such as Naomi McDuffie, alongside David. F Walker and Jamal Campbell. Born on an alternate Earth in a different dimension where metahumans destroyed society, McDuffie escaped to the DC Universe, where she was raised by an alien couple, unaware of her true origin. In time, Naomi discovered the secret of her past life, and her powers; she has worked alongside Young Justice and was recently recruited to the Justice League. Now fighting alongside the likes of Superman, Black Canary and Black Adam, Naomi continues to learn more about herself and her history, and readers who have been patiently waiting for the character’s solo return will be rewarded this March when Naomi Season Two launches, from the original creative team of Bendis, Walker and Campbell.

In a press release, DC Comics revealed more information on the new title, including preview art, shared below. The book promises to continue to explore Naomi’s life and powers, and readers can expect a variety of guest stars, including Naomi’s teammates in the Justice League. Zumbado, her greatest enemy, will also return. The book will see Naomi try to reconcile her small-town life with life in the Justice League. Bendis is excited to reunite with Naomi’s original creative team and calls the new book “a very important chapter in Naomi McDuffie’s life and legacy.” Walker is looking forward to reuniting with Bendis and Campbell as well, saying the book’s first season was “about unpacking what it means to be a superhero.”

Naomi McDuffie has been an unqualified hit for DC Comics, showing herself to have abilities that rival those of Superman, and bringing a literal world of intrigue to Justice League and her own title. Naomi was brought onto the Justice League during a push for new perspectives outside the usual superhero circle, joining alongside former villain Black Adam and Amazonian royalty Hippolyta. Naomi Season Two promises to delve even further into her fascinating backstory and her connections to the larger DC Universe.

Recent adventures with the Justice League have made the villains who destroyed Naomi’s original reality aware of Earth, and it’s likely this new series will see her fending them off from her adopted home. Naomi’s stories have also been sure that it remains clear her powers are still very new, and it’s likely Naomi Season 2 will continue this theme. Brian Michael Bendis and his collaborators caught lightning in a bottle with the Justice League‘s Naomi McDuffie, creating a character that has become one of DC’s most popular in no time, and who is now poised for bigger and better things.
