Naked Gun Remake Gets Release Date After 15 Years Of Development Hell

The Naked Gun movie remake receives a long-awaited update after being in development hell for over a decade. The classic crime spoof series spun out of ABC’s 1980’s Police Squad! series, and starred Leslie Nielsen as the good-hearted but often dim-witted police officer Frank Drebin, with his adventures seeing him defend royalty, prevent nuclear bombings, and escape an assassination. Announced in 2009 and having undertaken many incarnations, the currently planned movie is set to star Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr, with Seth MacFarlane serving as a producer.

Variety provides a long-awaited update on the The Naked Gun reboot. With MacFarlane and Neeson’s involvement reaffirmed in the Akiva Schaffer-directed feature, a tentative release date was confirmed. The movie will release on July 18, 2025.
