Village Roadshow, the team bringing the TV adaptation of classic video game Myst to life, has hired X-Men: First Class writer Ashley Edward Miller. Myst is an adventure puzzle game that takes players to an island called Myst, where they can travel to four other worlds, which the game calls “Ages,” through solving puzzles. It came out in 1993 and was a surprise success, holding the title of best-selling PC game until The Sims came out in 2002. Multiple sequel games have followed.

As reported by Deadline, Miller, who also co-wrote Marvel’s Thor, will be the showrunner for the Myst series and pen the pilot script. Village Roadshow Entertainment Group will produce with Rand Miller, co-creator of the original game, his youngest brother, Ryan Miller, and Yale Rice and Isaac Testerman at Delve Media.

An adaptation of Myst has been in development for a decade now. Initially optioned in 2010, the rights switched hands in 2014, when Legendary Entertainment attempted to turn it into a television series.  It appeared to be moving forward when, in May of 2015, it was announced that the series would premiere on Hulu, but the project eventually fell apart.

News that Village Roadshow acquired the rights to the game series came last June when they announced that they intended to create a Myst film and television universe. Miller’s attachment to the TV series as showrunner is an excellent sign for the project and provides new hope that we might finally see a Myst video game adaptation on our screens soon.
