Murder Mystery 3: Release Date Predication, Cast & Everything We Know

<

Murder Mystery 3 will turn Netflix’s Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston led Murder Mystery franchise into a trilogy. The Murder Mystery movies follow police officer Nick Spitz (Sandler) and his wife, hairstylist Audrey Spitz (Aniston). As the name implies, Murder Mystery is firmly set in the mystery genre but with the additional flavor of Sandler’s wild comedy. It’s a familiar pairing of leads as well. Sandler and Aniston acted together in Just Go With It (2011) and their chemistry is the better part of these movies, which are riffs on the mystery genre as a whole.

Murder Mystery came out on Netflix in 2019 and was viewed by 30.9 million households within the first 72 hours of its release, a record at the time (via Variety). The film sees Nick and Audrey travel to Europe for a much-needed vacation only to become embroiled in a murder investigation. Murder Mystery 2 (2023) picks up months after the end of the first movie as the couple once again gets involved with a murder, this time at their friend Maharajah Vikram’s (Adeel Akhtar) wedding. Not much has been released about Murder Mystery 3 yet, including if it will even happen.

Murder Mystery 3 Latest News

Murder Mystery 3: Release Date Predication, Cast & Everything We Know

There hasn’t been much Murder Mystery 3 news in 2023, with the most recent update from Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston arriving in April. While discussing the then-recently-released second movie, the leads of Netflix’s Murder Mystery movies disclosed a few ideas for the next installment. “We’re gonna be married in the third. That’s all we got so far.” Sandler explained, “We still love each other or is it a weird thing?” Since then there’s been no significant news when it comes to the new Murder Mystery on Netflix.

However, just because there’s not been many recent updates on when and if Murder Mystery 3 is happening doesn’t mean there’s necessarily cause for concern. Adam Sandler has been busy with multiple movies including 2023’s You’re So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah. For her part, Jennifer Aniston has enjoyed another successful season of hit newsroom dramedy The Morning Show. The cast leads busy schedules combined with 2023’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes may simply mean that development on Murder Mystery 3 hasn’t started yet, and may not have been next up on Sandler or Aniston’s priority list even without the strikes.

Murder Mystery 3 Is Not Confirmed

Murder Mystery 3 has not yet been confirmed by Netflix or Happy Madison productions. Murder Mystery was a huge success and if Murder Mystery 2 is watched by even a close amount of households, the third movie should be a certainty. Sandler has made many movies with Netflix, as nearly everything he’s produced and starred in since The Ridiculous 6 (2015) have premiered on the streaming service. It appears that if Sandler wants a film made, Netflix is more than happy to help.

Murder Mystery 3 Release Date Prediction

There’s currently no known release date for Murder Mystery 3. On the red carpet for the Murder Mystery 2 premiere Sandler revealed they only need to shoot for 6–8 weeks, so the third movie could arrive much sooner than it took for the sequel to release. If production begins in late 2023 or early the next year then a 2024 release date is certainly possible. However, with little word on Murder Mystery 3 even being developed a release of 2025 or later feels more realistic.

Murder Mystery 3 Cast: Who Will Return?

Saira (Kuhoo Verma) with her hand on her chest, looking nervous in Murder Mystery 2

As the leads of the franchise, Sandler and Aniston will be sure to return for the Murder Mystery 3 cast. Both have stated their interest and the movies are as much about their characters’ relationship as they are about solving a revolving door of murders. There are a few characters who have survived both Murder Mystery and Murder Mystery 2 and should therefore appear at least for a small role in the next film. These characters include Inspector de la Croix (Dany Boon), Colonel Ulenga (John Kani), and the Maharajah.

Characters who are introduced in Murder Mystery 2 could also reappear in the threequel, as either allies or enemies. Saira Govindan (Kuhoo Verma) is revealed to be the villain in Murder Mystery 2, but her ending is left ambiguous. Claudette (Mélanie Laurent) knocks out Saira at the end of the movie, but then she isn’t shown again. She could very well reappear in the next movie as the antagonist or perhaps as a reluctant ally to Nick and Audrey. Claudette herself could come back for Murder Mystery 3, especially if the Maharajah returns. Laurent would be a nice inclusion as a name actor to bolster the main cast.

On the red carpet for the Murder Mystery 2 premiere Sandler mentioned that he would love to have Shaquille O’Neal be a part of the Murder Mystery 3 cast (via Entertainment Tonight). Sandler and O’Neal would be excellent co-stars considering they’re both well-known and public comedy personalities. Sandler has a well-documented love for basketball and the NBA as well. The cast of Murder Mystery 3 could be the perfect vehicle for an O’Neal and Sandler pairing.

What Murder Mystery 3’s Story Could Be

The pilot in Murder Mystery 2

There has not been any word on what Murder Mystery 3’s story could entail but knowing Happy Madison Productions and what Sandler said on the red carpet, it will surely be filmed in an exotic and beautiful locale. So far, the Murder Mystery movies have only been connected by the characters; the plot of the first film did not inform the second, save that there is a murder to be solved. Each movie has its own plot to be figured out and solved, bringing in new villains and puzzles. Murder Mystery 3’s story could be about any crime.

The ending of Murder Mystery 2 certainly sets up a sequel. Having solved the murder and kidnapping, Nick and Audrey collect their $10 million reward and fly to Athens for a real vacation, taking the same helicopter they used at the start of the movie. However, the pilot suddenly drops his accent and steals the suitcase with the money. He parachutes out of the helicopter, leaving the couple penniless and pilotless as the credits roll. Murder Mystery 3 could pick up right from that point and follow Nick and Audrey’s adventure in Greece as they try to get their money back.

This could also be meaningless, and simply a fun, exciting way to end Murder Mystery 2; and Murder Mystery 3 could begin with the pair complaining that they still have not been able to go on vacation. This would fit in with the tone of the series. At the end of Murder Mystery, Nick and Audrey hop on the “Orient Express” implying they were about to head into a whole new crime caper. However, Murder Mystery 2 ignores that plot point and begins a new story. The same could very well happen for Murder Mystery 3.
