Mumm-Ra Officially Joins New Thundercats Continuity in God-Tier Jae Lee Art

Mumm-Ra officially joins the new Thundercats continuity in a god-tier cover from Jae Lee. Dynamite Entertainment will release a new Thundercats title this February. The book will utilize a “back to basics” approach, retelling the team’s origins. The book will also show their first encounters with the fearsome Mumm-Ra. The avatar of the Ancient Spirits of Evil makes his debut in a stunning Jae Lee cover to Thundercats #2.

Dynamite Entertainment shared a first look at Thundercats #2’s Jae Lee variant cover with League of Comic Geeks. The cover features Mumm-Ra, still in his mummified form, bursting out of his crypt. With his bandages blowing in the wind, Mumm-Ra’s eyes are glowing red, and one claw-like hand is reaching for the reader. Readers can also see Mumm-Ra’s fangs, which are bared as well.

Mumm-Ra Is the Ultimate Evil in the Thundercats Universe

Mumm-Ra Will Soon Be Reborn in Dynamite’s New Thundercats Title

Mumm-Ra the Ever Living is the primary antagonist for Lion-O and the rest of the Thundercats. An ancient being of pure evil, Mumm-Ra lived under the sands of the mysterious Third Earth. The Thundercats, fleeing the destruction of their homeworld, crash-landed on Third Earth. They were followed by a band of Evil Mutants. The Mutants meet Mumm-Ra and, after realizing their goals overlapped, join forces to destroy the Thundercats and obtain the powerful Sword of Omens. The Thundercats’ struggles against Mumm-Ra have formed the basis of every incarnation of the franchise.

Dynamite Entertainment recently obtained the license to produce new comics based on the Thundercats, and the publisher has already generated heavy buzz with the book’s emphasis on the team’s early years. Fans will see Lion-O use the Sword of Omens for the first time–a crucial piece of Thundercats lore. Essentially functioning as a “Year One” take on the property, Dynamite’s new Thundercats book will explore not only the team’s first days, but their adversaries as well. Dynamite is launching a new Thundercats continuity, and fans have the chance to be on the ground floor of something special.
