New Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness images reveal more of Stephen Strange’s arrest. Benedict Cumberbatch returns to the MCU after his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. This time, in his second standalone film, Strange will presumably suffer the consequences of his decision to help Peter Parker (Tom Holland), one that ended up opening the multiverse.
Marvel Studios debuted the first footage for the upcoming sequel via Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s post-credits scene, but it was during Super Bowl LVI that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ first proper trailer was released. It marked the beginning of the movie’s marketing period, and since then, more information about the project has been released to the public. That includes what fans can expect from the debut of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch’s (Elizabeth Olsen) role in the narrative, as it appears as if she and Doctor Strange would have a more contentious dynamic. Finally, there’s the potential introduction of the MCU’s Illuminati with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X confirmed to return.
As part of its extensive feature on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, new promotional images from the film have been released via Empire Magazine. They’re focused on Strange’s arrest following the role that he played in what went down in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Interestingly, he meets Chavez while being detained in glass cubicles. Check out the images below:
It’s difficult to predict what’s actually going on in these images without any provided context. That being said, it’s safe to say that they’re all part of the same segment in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Strange is arrested, as seen in the trailer, and presented to what many have presumed to be the MCU’s Illuminati. He’s likely being reprimanded because of his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. After that, he’s detained and it’s possible that’s where he first makes contact with Gomez. As said in the same feature, the new MCU hero will be the one to teach Doctor Strange more about what the multiverse is really about. Chances are, this is how their relationship begins. Interestingly, these cells are reminiscent of the one used for Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in The Avengers.
At this point, it’s unclear how Wanda fits in all of this, but, it’s safe to say that she will play a big part in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s possible that she will get caught up in the multiversal aspect of the film because she’s on the hunt for her kids who were screaming for her help at the end of WandaVision. But, her actions may prove to be dangerous since she’s also learning a lot from the Darkhold.
