Multiple Silent Hill Games Are In The Works, Says Film Director

Christophe Gans, the director of the 2006 Silent Hill movie and its upcoming sequel, has revealed that there are currently multiple new Silent Hill games in the works. 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour currently serves as the series’ most recent entry, but rumors have recently teased that various new installments are in development. Recent rumors claim that three new Silent Hill games are currently in the works, and Christophe Gans seems to be corroborating those claims.

While Silent Hill was once a staple of the survival horror genre, publisher Konami has largely ignored the franchise over the last decade. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima was set to develop a new installment titled Silent Hills, but this project was unfortunately canceled back in 2015. However, rumors suggest that Konami is currently planning an impressive comeback through the development of both remakes and full-blown sequels. A modern remake of Silent Hill 2 is a particularly popular claim, with the project allegedly taking inspiration from Capcom’s successful Resident Evil remakes. Survival horror fans are patiently awaiting the reveal of a new Silent Hill game, but so far Konami has kept any potential projects under wraps.

In a YouTube interview with MaG, translated from French via Resetera, Silent Hill film director Christophe Gans reveals that several new games in the series are being developed. Gans claims that an extensive lineup of Silent Hill games is in the works, with Konami apparently being impressed by Capcom’s recent Resident Evil remakes and sequels. During the interview Gans specifically confirms that Bloober Team, the developer behind Blair Witch and The Medium, is working on a remake of Silent Hill 2. Gans is currently working on a new Silent Hill movie, and therefore has access to behind-the-scenes information, but his claims are currently unsubstantiated by Konami.

While a Silent Hill 2 remake is often cited by insiders, another new game titled Silent Hill: The Short Message was recently teased by the Korean ratings board. Little can be discerned from the project’s title alone, but The Short Message does seem to line up with prior rumors about the franchise’s future. Alongside a Silent Hill 2 remake, many insiders have stated that a short horror demo in the style of Hideo Kojima’s P.T. is currently in the works. If it does truly exist, SIlent Hill: The Short Message will likely be that short experience that reintroduces fans to the world of Silent Hill.

Rumors have been swirling about the future of the Silent Hill series, and now Christophe Gans has given fans a clear indication that new installments are on the way. During the interview Gans confirms that a Silent Hill 2 remake is on the way, along with various other projects created by different teams. While these games are still unannounced, Gans’ claims are perhaps the most substantial peak at the Silent Hill franchise’s future yet.
