The launch date for Nvidia‘s RTX 40-series graphics cards and the entry-level GTX 1630 GPU have reportedly been pushed back for unspecified reasons. If the report is accurate, this would be the second delay for the GTX 1630 in less than a month after its launch was pushed back late last month from May 31 to June 15. The GTX 1630 will be Nvidia’s latest offering in the entry-level segment, and one that the company hopes will help it better compete with AMD at the lower end of the market where the latter not only offers affordable value-for-money cards, such as the Radeon RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT, but also a slew of APUs that include decent integrated graphics for casual gaming.
As for the RTX 40-series cards, they were earlier rumored to be launched by July this year. However, more realistic reports claimed that the top-of-the-line RTX 4090 could be launched in August before the RTX 4080 and 4070 are launched in the following two months. Based on Nvidia’s ‘Ada Lovelace’ architecture, the RTX 40-series cards will be upgrades over the RTX 30-series GPUs that form Nvidia’s current graphics card lineup. The upcoming GPUs will not only compete with AMD’s forthcoming RX 7000-series cards but also Intel’s Arc Alchemist GPUs, which are also expected to launch later this summer.
According to VideoCardz, the launch date for Nvidia’s upcoming entry-level GTX 1630 has been pushed back indefinitely. As per the report, Nvidia recently changed the embargo date for the GTX 1630 cards from June 15 to ‘TBD’ (To be Determined), suggesting that the card is not launching this week. While there’s no official reason offered for the delay, the report claims that the company has been having problems with “securing the necessary components” to manufacture the cards and get them ready for the market. It’s not immediately clear what these scarce components are, but the report clearly states that they are not the GPUs themselves.
A Blow To Gamers And Enthusiasts
The report further claims that Nvidia’s board partners have already manufactured the first batch of the GTX 1630 cards and the approval process for the packaging designs has also been completed. Still, there’s no word on an official launch date from Nvidia yet. In terms of the technical specifications of the GTX 1630, it is said to come with 512 CUDA cores, down from the 896 in the GTX 1650. It is also said to be up to 72 percent slower than the 1650 in benchmarks, which might suggest that it needs to be priced significantly lower to be successful.
As for the RTX 40-series, VideoCardz claims that the launch dates for all cards in the lineup have been pushed back by at least a month in each case. While the top-of-the-line RTX 4090 was earlier expected to launch in August, it will now only make it to the market in September 2022. As for the RTX 4080, it will now launch in October instead of September, while the RTX 4070 will be available for purchase in November instead of October. There’s no official reasoning for the delay, but the report claims that Nvidia is trying to sell as many 30-series cards as possible before the launch of the next generation. Either way, with the 40-series all set to launch, it will be interesting to see if Nvidia will announce a price-cut on the 30-series cards any time soon.
