Ms. Marvel’s Death Could Be Undone Sooner Than Expected – By The X-Men

Warning! Spoilers for Amazing Spider-man #26!The death of Ms. Marvel is already swirling with controversy because it took place in Amazing Spider-man instead of a more Kamala-centric book, but the controversy could deepen if Marvel decides to alter Ms. Marvel’s origin so that it is more familiar to fans of the MCU, making her a mutant. This means that Kamala could come back to life through the X-Men’s Resurrection Protocols.

In Amazing Spider-man #26, by Zeb Wells, John Romita Jr., Scott Hanna, Marcio Menyz, Erick Arciniega, and Joe Caramagna, Ms. Marvel dies a heroic death when she takes on the appearance of Mary Jane Watson to fool the villain, Rabin. This was quite unexpected, as Ms. Marvel was a barely-appearing side character in this Amazing Spider-Man book, which left many fans baffled by the decision. However, Ms. Marvel’s status in the MCU as a “mutant” hints at a way that she could come back to the comics, by becoming one of the X-Men.

The Resurrection of Ms. Marvel Could Happen Thanks To The X-Men

Ms. Marvel’s Death Could Be Undone Sooner Than Expected – By The X-Men

Ms. Marvel could be resurrected by the X-men’s resurrection protocols. The grandest achievement of the Krakoan Era of the X-men is the mutant’s ability to resurrect. However, with the notable exception of Captain America, the X-men only bring mutants back from the dead (even if after Judgment Day they have promised to share their resurrection with humans). However, in Marvel Comics Kamala is not a mutant but an Inhuman, the result of ancient genetical alterations made by the Kree race, triggered by the Terrigen Mists. Ms.Marvel’s death, then, could be the chance to align the comics with her MCU story.

In the live-action series Ms. Marvel, on Disney+, Kamala’s best friend and brilliant scientist, Bruno, tells her that there is a mutation in her genes, which is as close as the MCU could get for a long time to the concept of Marvel’s mutants (considering that the rights to the X-Men movies were previously owned by Fox). If Marvel desires a more recognizable continuity among their films and comics, making Ms. Marvel a mutant in the comics makes sense. They would not have to completely abandon the Inhuman part of Kamala Khan’s story, though, as she could simply be a mutant Inhuman, a rare occurrence but nothing unheard of.

Ms. Marvel dies in Amazing Spider-Man

If she does have mutant DNA, with or without a retcon of her Inhuman origins, Kamala Khan is a prime candidate for the X-men’s Resurrection Protocols. It is unlikely that Marvel will leave such a popular and culturally significant character off the board for long, and Krakoan resurrection would be a quick fix to this very controversial decision, that will place Kamala in a much more significant position while at the same time aligning her comics story with her MCU version. Ms. Marvel‘s death may have been controversial, but her eventual resurrection at the hands of the X-Men could be the best thing that happened to the character in a long time.
