Ms. Marvel’s Adult Superhero Costume Revealed in God-Tier Alex Ross Art

Warning: contains potential spoilers for Avengers: Twilight #3!Ms. Marvel’s adult costume has been revealed in new, god-tier Alex Ross art. Ms. Marvel, AKA Kamala Khan, quickly rose to become one of Marvel’s brightest stars, all while still a teenager. She has accomplished a great deal in her short time, and now Alex Ross has unveiled his cover for Avengers: Twilight #3, spotlighting a decidedly older, but still heroic, Kamala Khan.

Marvel shared a first look at Ross’ cover for Avengers: Twilight #3, which will be written by Chip Zdarsky and drawn by Daniel Acuna, with AIPT. What role Ms. Marvel will play in Avengers: Twilight #3 remains unknown. The solicitation reads as follows:

AVENGERS: TWILIGHT #3 will take Captain America off the shores of New York City to the Raft, a government facility full of secrets and danger! Can Cap infiltrate it before the new Iron Man gives him the same gruesome fate as Tony Stark?

A press release accompanying the AIPT article acknowledged Ms. Marvel’s sterling reputation before hinting that something may have happened to “tarnish” it.

Ms. Marvel Was Once an Avenger…and May Be Again

An adult Ms. Marvel is but the tip of the iceberg that is Avengers: Twilight. The press release shared with AIPT revealed the project has been simmering for years, and will provide a “thought-provoking new endpoint for the Marvel Universe.” Exact plot details have been mum, but Marvel has revealed Avengers: Twilight will involve an older Steve Rogers, who must come out of retirement to fight for the Avengers’ legacy. Ms. Marvel is no stranger to the Avengers herself, having served on the team not long after her debut. It was a huge honor for a teen to join Earth’s mightiest heroes, and she lived up to expectations.

Now, Alex Ross has taken readers to the future, introducing them to an adult Ms. Marvel. Her traditional outfit took the best aspects of Carol Danvers’ original Ms. Marvel outfit and added a modern touch. It was a way of honoring the past and looking to the future. However, since Ms. Marvel’s rebirth as a mutant, she has adopted a new uniform, one influenced by X-Men suits of years past, leading to the question of why she is not wearing the X-colors, but instead has returned to her classic get-up. The answer may lie in what has happened to Kamala Khan between now and the events of Avengers: Twilight.

Will Ms. Marvel Always Be A Hero?

Marvel’s press release teased a potential fall from grace for Kamala, suggesting her reputation took a hit somewhere along the way. Ms. Marvel has been consistently depicted as an example for all heroes to follow, regardless of age, and for her name to be sullied is shocking. If this is the case, and Ms. Marvel is having to walk it back, then a return to a variant of her classic outfit may be a way of getting back in touch with the hero she used to be, fitting well with Avengers: Twilight’s themes. Alex Ross’ new cover shows an adult Ms. Marvel returning to her roots.
