Ms Marvel: Who Kamala Sees In Her Visions

Warning! SPOILERS for Ms. Marvel episode 2 ahead.

Ms. Marvel episode 2 saw Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) trying to save a kid dangling from a tower until she was distracted by a vision – but many viewers are confused as to what exactly she saw. After fortuitously realizing she had powers in Ms. Marvel episode 1, Kamala spent a good chunk of episode 2 discovering them and trying them out with Bruno’s (Matt Lintz) help. When, during an Eid celebration, a boy ended up hanging through a curtain from the Mosque’s tower though, Kamala had to try and save him, using her powers for good.

The Eid celebration provided another opportunity for Kamala beyond helping Nakia (Yasmeen Fletcher) secure votes for the upcoming Mosque Board election. As Kamala got her powers after wearing the bangle bracelet at the AvengerCon in Ms. Marvel episode 1, she wanted to know more about it. As the bangle was sent over by her grandmother Sana in Pakistan, who also mentioned it belonged to her mother Aisha, she thought she could learn more about it and her great-grandmother simultaneously. After all, her mother Muneeba (Zenobia Shroff) didn’t say anything about it to Kamala, only referring to the bracelet as “junk” while pushing for it to be hidden in the attic.

The information Kamala hoped to get at the Eid celebration confirmed why Muneeba and Sana refrained from answering Kamala’s questions about Aisha, as the aunties all described her as someone who brought shame to the family. Still, Ms. Marvel episode 2 also heavily hinted at who must be the person that appeared in Kamala’s visions. Aisha’s clear connection to the bangle and the fact that Kamala had those visions while the bangle was somewhat activated and lighting up all but confirmed that the woman who could be seen extending a hand towards Kamala was her great-grandmother Aisha.

Ms Marvel: Who Kamala Sees In Her Visions

In Ms. Marvel, great emphasis was placed on how Kamala’s powers were awakened by her connection to the family heirloom. Considering that the only person who possibly knew what the bracelet could manifest in people was Aisha, and Kamala’s great-grandmother disappeared in 1947, Kamala’s visions could be the way through which she could learn more about both her powers and her family history. Moreover, Ms. Marvel episodes 1 and 2 already highlighted the potential similarities between the path Kamala would want to pursue and that taken by Aisha. Aisha was described as someone “obsessed with her fantasies” at best and as someone with secret affairs, who put curses on people, and who even “killed a man,” according to the aunties. Kamala’s interest in everything Captain Marvel-related made her someone dangerously close to veering off path, at least based on how Muneeba and the other aunties saw it.

Kamala’s visions being the key to knowing more about her powers was also hinted at by her father Yusuf’s (Mohan Kapur) story in Ms. Marvel episode 2. His story of how Muneeba’s mother Sana found her way back to the train as a toddler by “following a trail of stars right back to her father” described Sana being reunited safely with her family thanks to something eerily similar to how Kamala’s powers manifested in the TV show, hinting at Aisha probably having something to do with it, especially as she disappeared that night in 1947. This not only made Aisha’s connection to the bangle and consequently Kamala’s powers stronger, but also something that Ms. Marvel episode 3 will have to explore, especially as Kamala’s visions became more intrusive and dangerous in episode 2.
