Iman Vellani confirms her casting as Kamala Khan for the upcoming Ms. Marvel TV series. Set to release exclusively on Disney+, the actress is the newest star to join the MCU via a small screen project; she follows Tatiana Maslany, who has recently been reported to play Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, in her own streaming show.
Ms. Marvel is a fairly new character in Marvel comics, only debuting 2014. However, she immediately made her mark becoming the first Muslim-American superhero to spearhead her own comic book. Previously, the character has been adapted for Marvel Television via the animated series, Marvel Rising, and Kamala is also featured in the latest Avengers game. Now, however, the hero is officially joining the MCU through her very own Disney+ series, and star Vellani is nothing but excited about this.
Not long after news broke out that the up-and-coming actress from Canada has been cast as Kamala Khan, Vellani took it to her official Instagram account to confirm the news. She expressed her excitement about his new endeavor and asked everyone to wish her luck as she stars in Ms. Marvel. Meanwhile, comic book writer G. Willow Wilson, who relaunched Ms. Marvel in print, also backed up the casting reports, adding that Vellani is “the real deal.” Check out both social media posts below:
It’s worth noting that Marvel Studios has yet to make an official announcement regarding this, and based on how they usually handle casting news, it’s safe to say that they will be mum about it for a while until they have the opportunity to confirm the news. Case in point: they still haven’t commented on Maslany’s casting, although Mark Ruffalo has already welcomed the actress into the MCU family. In any case, with both Vellani and Wilson’s recent social media posts, this news is as good as confirmed. Perhaps Marvel Studios can release a press statement once production starts for Ms. Marvel, which will be led by Bad Boys for Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
Marvel Studios has been relatively quiet over the last few months, barely releasing anything official regarding their upcoming slate. However, while the big screen pocket of the universe is quiet and marred with delays, its Disney+ side is thriving with the release of the record-breaking first trailer for WandaVision and a string of casting news, the latest of which reveals Vellani playing Kamala in Ms. Marvel. This will give fans enough to talk about for the next few weeks.
