Ms. Marvel Image Reveals Doctor Strange & Wanda Standees at AvengerCon

A behind-the-scenes photo from Ms. Marvel reveals that both Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch have their own standees at AvengerCon. The series, which is the second live-action MCU show to hit Disney+ this year after the Oscar Isaac vehicle Moon Knight, will premiere on June 8. Ms. Marvel will introduce Iman Vellani as the titular teen heroine alongside an ensemble cast that includes Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Travina Springer, and Aramis Knight. Directing duties for the series have been split between Meera Menon, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and the directing duo Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, who helmed the Will Smith sequel Bad Boys for Life in 2020.

One of the most interesting aspects of Ms. Marvel is the fact that it begins as a more on-the-ground document of life in the MCU. Kamala Khan is a fan of superheroes – Captain Marvel in particular, which is why she eventually takes on Carol Danvers’ moniker when she acquires her own powers. Although she will get swept up in her own over-the-top superhero adventure before too long, Khan’s life will offer a glimpse into how regular people feel about the powered-up people who are constantly trying to save the earth, but not without a little collateral damage. At least some in the MCU love the heroes, as one of the events highlighted in the upcoming series is AvengerCon, a Comic-Con-like event that celebrates Marvel heroes.

In an image shared by Doctor Strange Updates, which is a behind-the-scenes photo from the filming of Ms. Marvel that wrapped in early May, AvengerCon features exhibits including a Thor nod with the Realm of Asgard. However, another interesting detail in the image is the cardboard standees of both Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch. in the background behind Kamala and her friend. It is currently not entirely clear what timeline the show runs during. The fact that there is still a standee up for Scarlet Witch would seem to indicate that the show takes place during a time before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and perhaps even WandaVision, during which the Avenger fell from grace. While WandaVision proved that her ruling over the town of Westview, New Jersey was partially due to the manipulation of Agatha Harkness, Doctor Strange 2 saw Wanda make a complete villainous turn as she accessed the power of the Darkhold to attempt to steal America Chavez’s multiverse hopping powers for herself.

It seems highly unlikely that Scarlet Witch’s standee would still be proudly put on display after that. However, it’s also possible that Ms. Marvel will reveal that superhero fans are still divided on Wanda, especially because her more villainous actions were confined to isolated places like the Kamar-Taj in Nepal, as well as other universes. While these questions still linger and may continue over the first few episodes of the series, the show could answer them sooner than later.
