One notable image showed the obsessive-compulsive Monk sitting at a dinner table wearing a full hazmat suit, with his dinner guest not taking any such precautions. It’s highly likely that this plays into the story details for the Monk movie revealed by Tony Shalhoub earlier in 2023. Shalhoub revealed that “”It’s Monk present day after however long we’ve been away from him, 13 years now, going on 14 years. This is post-COVID. Monk has been knocked back on his heels because of COVID.”

The initial report from Deadline announcing the December 2023 release date for the Monk movie also contained a few teases on what to expect from the plot courtesy of Andy Breckman. David Hoberman, and Randy Zisk, the creative team behind both the original Monk TV show and Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie.
Breckman, Hoberman, and Zisk revealed via a statement that “It’s been twelve years since the world has seen a fresh installment of Monk. The world has changed mightily in those intervening years and Monk 2023 reflects the changing world”. Their statement went on to add “Mr Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming, and has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.”
