Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle Trailer – Mowgli is Torn Between Worlds

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle Trailer – Mowgli is Torn Between Worlds

A new trailer for Andy Serkis’ Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle has arrived. This will be the second Jungle Book related film that has come out in recent years, although it is in no way connected to Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book, which Disney released in 2016. Instead, Serkis’ film will be a darker take on the Jungle Book story, with Netflix releasing Mowgli this December.

While Serkis has made it clear that Mowgli will be different than the Disney version, his cast has just as many big names as The Jungle Book did. Mowgli‘s cast includes Christian Bale as Bagheera, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, and Cate Blanchett as Kaa to name a few. Serkis will also voice the character Baloo and do motion-capture work to bring the bear to life. Mowgli has also gotten a PG-13 rating for “bloody images”.  As for the film’s marketing materials, it already received one trailer, a poster featuring Rohan Chand as Mowgli, and a second trailer that was just released today.

Netflix released the newest trailer for Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle today. The trailer further unveils the feud that is raging between humans and the animals in the jungle. This is also the first trailer to include the new Legend of the Jungle subtitle. Check out the full trailer below.

While the first trailer mainly just set the stage for Mowgli by introducing the main characters and pushing the darker tone that Serkis has promised, this second trailer shows more of Mowgli’s interactions with the animals and the humans. The trailer also suggests that Mowgli wants to join the people in the village, rather than being forced to as the first trailer implied. It’s also worth noting that the trailer has a significantly lighter mood than the one released in May, focusing more on hope than despair.

It will be interesting to see how the film continues to be marketed now that Netflix is distributing the film. It was recently announced that Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle would be getting a limited theatrical release starting on Nov. 29, before going to Netflix in early December. While the film could have potentially done poorly at the box office due to The Jungle Book‘s release two years ago, Netflix getting Mowgli is a huge win for the streaming service. Not only does the film help Netflix build their original content slate, it also allows them to connect to Hollywood since the film has so many big-named celebrities. No matter how well the film does with its limited release, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle will likely be able to pull in a lot of people on the streaming service.
