Movie Media Roundup: ‘Eclipse’, Last Airbender, Predators, and More

Movie Media Roundup: ‘Eclipse’, Last Airbender, Predators, and More

We’ve got the latest movie media roundup featuring an excellent collection of posters and pictures from several upcoming projects.

Today’s roundup includes images from The Last Airbender, Despicable Me, PredatorsThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Futurama, as well as potential concept artwork from the Godzilla reboot.

First up, we have the new international poster for M. Night Shyamalan’s big-budget, 3D adaptation of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon The Last Airbender.

Check out the international poster after the jump:

Movie Media Roundup: ‘Eclipse’, Last Airbender, Predators, and More

Like the recent elemental one-sheets, this new poster for The Last Airbender showcases both the excellent texture of the film’s effects and maintains the moody tone, as well as dramatic atmosphere, of previous footage and images we’ve seen so far.

Will The Last Airbender get writer/director M. Night Shyamalan back on good terms with moviegoers and critics alike?  If the film’s plot and characters are as interesting as its visuals, then I’d say there’s more than a good chance.

But the real question remains – can the director resist the temptation to throw in an arbitrary, mind-bending twist?

Next up, we’ve got a new image from Nimrod Antal’s Predators film. The image features a behind-the-mask look at Adrian Brody and Alice Braga – as seen through a Predator’s ‘thermal vision’ POV.

Antal’s Predators represents a return to the roots of the franchise, redirecting the ruthless hunters away from the more heroic Alien vs. Predator role they recently filled – which cast them as the lesser of two extra-terrestrial evils (when facing off against ‘Xenomorph’ Aliens).

It’s obvious, given what we’ve seen so far, that the Predators people-saving days are behind them – with a reemphasis on people-hunting.

We also have the latest images from this summer’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which you can see below:

Although Eclipse will definitely have its share of “broody teens staring at each other” scenes – which by now have become standard fare for the Twilight films – it looks to amp up the action quotient as well.

Will gloomy sequences, featuring vampires emerging from a lakebed – ready to battle CGI werewolves, be enough to draw in non-Twilight fans?  Probably not, but you can expect that Eclipse will still be popular in theaters nonetheless.

Fourth in the lineup, we have the poster for the the animated, 3D comedy Despicable Me – which features the voice talents of Steve Carrell and Jason Segel, among others.

I have to agree with the folks at Empire – the poster is oddly reminiscent of the Being John Malkovitch one-sheet. Go figure.

Despicable Me has the potential to be a fun cartoon adventure and Gru (Carrell) looks to be an amusing and kooky villain (though it’s a shame he’s missing a trademark evil mustache).

Next up, an image that could be early conceptual model-work and design for the 2012 Godzilla reboot from Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight).

Take a look for yourselves:

Godzilla reboot

If this image is legit, which is purely speculation at this point, then the new Godzilla creature design is even more detailed and dangerous-looking than that of the 1998 American Godzilla attempt – at least that’s what we’re hoping.

Here’s hoping this new Godzilla movie, unlike the 1998 effects extravaganza from Roland Emmerich, will actually be good.

Last, we have a pic from an upcoming two-part episode of Futurama (appropriately titled “Rebirth”) that is scheduled to air on Comedy Central’s new season of the cult animated TV series – which debuts on June 24th.

Futurama Screen Rebirth

Although the last episode of Futurama aired back in 2003, the show has been a popular hit on DVD – including several direct-to-DVD movies.

Will the new episodes of Futurama have the same clever humor, witty satire, and occasionally sweet, endearing tone as those from the show’s initial run on TV?  Here’s hoping for the best there as well.

Which of these upcoming projects are you most excited for?

Futurama will begin its new season on Comedy Central on June 24, 2010.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be out in theaters in the U.S. on June 30, 2010.

The Last Airbender hits regular and 3D theaters in the U.S. on July 2, 2010 while Despicable Me and Predators will follow suit just a week later on July 9.

The Godzilla reboot is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2012.
