They say ‘a picture is worth 1,000 words,’ and let’s be honest: when it comes to movies, they’re just more fun to look at. It’s in that spirit that we’ve gone ahead and wrangled new photos from several upcoming movie projects, including the superhero reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, Michael Bay’s true-life crime caper Pain and Gain, and a first look at Freaky Deaky, the latest onscreen adaptation of author Elmore Leonard’s work.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Earlier this year the Spider-Man reboot managed to make an impression with its full theatrical trailer, which was not nearly as terrible as so many had prophesied it would be. While some people are still scratching their heads, asking themselves why the Spider-Man movies seem to be ‘starting over,’ others have embraced this new version of the Web-Slinger’s tale – as well as the actor now playing him (Social Network star Andrew Garfield). The new costume, however, remains a divisive factor in this equation.

Have a look at the latest image of the “amazing” Spider-Man, which was first released as a cover of SFX Magazine:

The Amazing Spider-Man will be in theaters on July 3, 2012.

Pain and Gain

While he’s producing the new Ninja Turtles movie and mulling over Transformers 4, Michael Bay will actually get some directing done on a “small project” which has been titled Pain and Gain. For those who don’t know, the film is based on a real-life 1999 Miami New Times article series written by Pete Collins, about “a gang of local bodybuilders with a penchant for steroids, strippers, and quick cash. They later became known as Miami’s ‘Sun Gym gang’ and quickly developed a taste for blood and money.” (Click the following link if you want to read Collins’ ‘Pain & Gain’ articles – they’re pretty great.)

Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will play  Daniel Lugo and Adrain Doorbal, the duo who become the aforementioned criminally-inclined bodybuilders. As you’ll see in these set photos, Wahlberg is definitely looking the part:

Pain and Gain will hit theaters in 2013.

Freaky Deaky

Chances are, even if you don’t recognize the name of author of Elmore Leonard, you’re familiar with his work. Seriously, if you’ve seen the films Out of SightGet ShortyJackie Brown, Be Cool, The Big Bounce or FX’s popular TV series Justified, you’ve definitely seen shades of Leonard’s influence on the crime drama/thriller genres.

Freaky Deaky tells the story of a Detroit cop in the ’70s (Twilight Saga‘s Billy Burke), whose new job in the sex crimes unit turns into the usual Leonard-style crime fiasco. Involved in the mess are a drunk rich guy (Crispin Glover), his Afrocentric handler (Michael Jai White), the rich man’s yuppie brother (Andy Dick), a counter-culture-radical-turned-romance-novelist (Breanne Racanno) and her partner in crime (Christian Slater). Only in an Elmore Leonard story…
