Mortal Kombat Anniversary Video Celebrates 30 Years Of Brutality

The Mortal Kombat franchise’s 30th anniversary is being celebrated in a new commemorative video that shows the history of the franchise and how it grew as a multimedia entity. Mortal Kombat‘s 30th anniversary is taking place on October 8, marking a huge milestone for a series that has shaped the video game industry.

Mortal Kombat is the reason the ESRB and other age rating boards exist, with its ultra-violent content acting as the stepping stone for closer regulation of video games. The series was a smash hit in the arcades, leading to a cult-favorite theatrical film and resulting in Mortal Kombat being one of the earliest video game franchises to become successful across different forms of media. The series is still going strong today, with later entries featuring famous movie and comic book characters, such as Mortal Kombat 11 pitting Rambo against The Terminator, and Joker from the Batman comics against Spawn.

The 30th anniversary of the Mortal Kombat franchise is nearly here and Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have released a commemorative video to celebrate the occasion, which can be seen on the Mortal Kombat YouTube channel. The video tracks the history of the franchise and its characters, showing behind-the-scenes footage of how the games were made, how its fighters have evolved across the different entries, and how they’ve been adapted to the big and small screen. The logo for the Mortal Kombat 30th anniversary has also been revealed, showing its characters framed within Mortal Kombat‘s iconic dragon logo.

The video isn’t the only way the anniversary will be celebrated, as it has also been revealed that Klassic Movie Raiden will arrive in Mortal Kombat Mobile from Oct 7-11, with actor Christopher Lambert’s character likeness and voice from the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie. It has also been announced in the past that a Mortal Kombat: The 30th Anniversary Bundle will be also released, featuring a double pack with Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and a Blu-ray of the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie. Arcade1Up will also be releasing a Mortal Kombat 30th Anniversary arcade cabinet to mark the event.

Fans are expecting Mortal Kombat‘s creators to announce their next game, but it’s probably still too early for any reveals. Mortal Kombat 11 was released in 2019 and there has been no word regarding a new entry. It seems as if the 30th-anniversary commemorative video will be the main way the Mortal Kombat series is celebrating its birthday.
