Mortal Kombat 2’s New Video Game Character Addition Makes Those Noob Saibot Theories Even More Likely

Mortal Kombat 2’s New Video Game Character Addition Makes Those Noob Saibot Theories Even More Likely

A famous character from the Mortal Kombat lore will be in Mortal Kombat 2, and this addition all but confirms that Noob Saibot will appear in the sequel as well. Although Mortal Kombat (2021) made some puzzling decisions regarding characters and storylines, it was much better than 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and did well enough to get a sequel greenlight Now, the Mortal Kombat 2 set images offer enough clues to theorize where the sequel is going, and how important characters from the first movie may return.

Known for its intense violence and gore, the Mortal Kombat video games are also renowned for their expansive lore, memorable characters, and various locations that have become synonymous with the fighting game genre. Given the nature of the vast array of characters and locations, it’s understandable that certain elements will omitted. With a sequel on the way, more characters can join the fight. For example, Quan Chi will be in Mortal Kombat 2, which is good news for another character.

Quan Chi’s sorcery allows him to bring Hanzo Hasashi back as Scorpion as well.

Mortal Kombat 2’s New Video Game Character Addition Makes Those Noob Saibot Theories Even More Likely

In the original Mortal Kombat video games, Quan Chi is depicted as a nefarious sorcerer who rules the Netherrealm, that is, the franchise’s version of hell, with an iron fist. Moreover, Quan Chi possesses the ability to reanimate fallen warriors like Bi-Han, thus turning them into puppets in his army against Raiden and other formidable forces of good. As such, Quan Chi eventually does exactly that to Hanzo Hasashi and Bi Han, thus transforming them into the iconic characters, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. While they gain incredible strength and abilities, they’re also bound to Quan Chi’s will.

Although Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s origins are well documented in the Mortal Kombat video games’ lore, Mortal Kombat elected not to show Hanzo and Bi-Han’s transformation into Scorpion and Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot for undisclosed reasons. Furthermore, as seen in Mortal Kombat‘s ending, Hanzo reappears to assist protagonist Cole in his fight against Sub-Zero, but without the much-needed context of Quan Chi and the Netherrealm, it comes across as random and incoherent plot armor for the sake of good beating evil. With Quan Chi in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2, audiences may see Noob Saibot’s proper live-action introduction and Scorpion’s origin story.

Mortal Kombat (2021) Already Teased Sub-Zero’s Return As Noob Saibot

Shang Tsung’s words refer to the various other universes that exist in Mortal Kombat lore.

Chin Han as Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat (2021).

Near Mortal Kombat‘s conclusion, Shang Tsung tells Raiden, “Death is only another portal,” thus implying that the movie’s fallen characters could reappear in the sequel. Similar to the franchise’s signature gore, Mortal Kombat is also known for constantly reviving dead characters, thus leading to Scorpion and Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot’s existence. The portal that Shang Tsung is referring to is no doubt the series’ iconic Netherrealm, and with the Netherrealm and Quan Chi set to appear, there’s no doubt Noob Saibot will also make his live-action debut in Mortal Kombat 2.
